Twin's Garden, Flic en Flac.: Sega show.

by pfsmalo Written Feb 21, 2013

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Every Friday evening at the Twin's garden restaurant on the seafront, there is a music/dance show highlighting the Mauricien sega dance. This takes the form of a lot of interaction between the singer and the girl dancers, and is quite erotic in form. If anyone has ever seen the "Ventilator" dance in Senegal, you'll know what I mean. It is essentially a dance devised by women to get the men out of the bar and back home.....
Generally the show is included in the buffet meal night in the garden at 600 roupies (15€) plus VAT, but it is possible to wander in once the music has started and just order drinks, either at the bar or at the table if one is free. Beer starts at around 100 roupies (2.5€) inc VAT.

Dress Code: No special dress code at all, although there are a couple of rather large bouncers at the gate, so coming off the beach in bikini or trunks will NOT get you in. Neither will being inebriated.

  • LES ENFANTS TERRIBLE: NIGHTCLUB WARNING

COMING ON HOLIDAY FROM SUCH A MULTICULTURAL CITY LIKE LONDON I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED RACISM AT A CLUB THERE BUT I WAS SHOCKED AT THE WAY ME AND MY FRIENDS FROM LONDON AND MAURITIAN FAMILY WERE TREATED AT THE DOOR AT THIS SO CALLED PRIVATE CLUB. AFTER PAYING FOR A TAXI TO GET THERE WE WERE TURNED AWAY FROM THE DOOR AND TOLD IT WAS A PRIVATE PARTY. AS SO MANY WHITE PEOPLE STROLLED IN AND NO QUESTIONS ASKED. BUT AFTER SPEAKING TO SO MANY PEOPLE ON THE ISLAND THEY TOLD THAT THE CLUB IS RACIST AND PEOPLE ARE JUDGE BY THE COLOUR OF THEIR SKIN BEFORE THEY GET IN. THERE IS NO WAY A CLUB LIKE THIS IS GOING TO LAST BECAUSE THE PEOPLE RUNNING IT ARE DISGUSTING FILTHY RACISTS. I HAD TO LAUGH AT THE MOST UGLY BIG NOSE GUY AT THE DOOR WHO REFUSED US ENTRY EACH TIME HE TOLD US IT WAS A PRIVATE PARTY HIS MASSIVE NOSE GREW BIGGER JUST LIKE PINNICHIO LYING PIG

    English Pub: Outside seating

by grets Written Jan 28, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This "typical" English pub had great outdoor seating as well as indoor. We enjoyed a couple of ciders (imported from South Africa) before we realised quite how expensive they were, and we then swapped to beer.

    by stelios-fotini Written Nov 21, 2004

there is not nightlife in mauritius(maybe i am biased because of what we mean nightlife in greece) ,nightlife is considered karaoke nights sega dancing nights and small groups singing nights. As you understand all the above take place within the hotel,so its good to ask infos about the entertainment part

    Night Pool Party

    by Klod5 Written Nov 2, 2004

Then you will be able to go to degrade (without mauricians - except the professional), in one the these new places for tourists who begin to bloom here and there. The sexual tourism is about to become, with the complicity of the governing, a new maurician's enterprise.
Decidedly, one will have made everything to undergo to this poor country!

    New district of affairs

    by Klod5 Written Nov 2, 2004

The whole district close to the harbor to been shaved entirely and rebuilds. Henceforth it is a modern city, that spreads the success of certain under the sun of the tropic. For the contrasts, some streets farther, the old shacks that welcome the population show that everybody didn't take advantage of internationalization and the injunctions of the World Bank (and of the American government...).

From what my cousins tell me,...

    by g_beli Written Aug 26, 2002

From what my cousins tell me, I believe Grand Baie is the hot spot for natives and tourists alike with regards to clubbing and nightlife activities.
Hopped several bars in Grand Baie, with tourists and natives packed in each one. Many seemed to enjoy meeting new people, and were very friendly.

Dress Code: Casual from beachwear (shorts, tanks, khaki, slippers) to hip-hop (cargo pants, tanks) to dressy (slacks, 'the black dress,' skirts).
