Depending on means of travel: For hotels nothing is a problem. You will get great service. If you are backbacking be as small as possible as busses get really packed. Normal summer holiday clothes. A good pair of walking shoes recommended. You get everything in the stores. Mosquito Repellent would be a good idea. The stuff we got there did not seem to work well. We have digital cameras so I can tell. In Grand Baie it was possible to have some CD's burned if needed. Don't forget your snorkeling gear. You will be able to buy cheap clothes in outlets of factories. So if you need a clen shirt/ T-shirt no problem at all.

Dress to Impress

As always a large duffle with wheels is a winner everytime I like to make an effort when staying at a resort of this calibre so I packed the best of everything. Low healed metallic sandals and dressy flip flops are perfect for day time and evening. A dazzling array of sundresses and beaded kaftans. Smart shorts & tops. I also pack 3 in 1 wipes, lip balm, sunscreen and aftersun, nurofen, nurofen cold & flu, senekot and immodium, pack of tissues and scrunchies. Your best bikinis and swimwear with coordinating sarongs and kaftans. Accesorise with hats, scrves and beach bags.

Sun Screen Creams are a must

by maneckk

Take a suitcase and a backpack along with you so that you can use the small back pack on island trips Sports Shoes, Sandals or floaters and Beach slippers Most of the Good Hotels supply you the toiletries, and they have a doctor available but do take your necessary medicines and Sun Creams Digital camera batteries and charger with their cables to transfer pics to computers and CD's coz you might just end up taking more pictures than you thought you would. If you have a marine or a water proof camera, you can make the most out of it. Shorts, tshirts, swimming trunks (take at least 2), beach slippers Carry one formal wear at least for formal restaurants and sometimes casinos.

Flip-flop's - clever choice

by ZenLady34

What shoes to take with you? Take flip-flop's as they are the ones you will need there. When it rains the water comes pouring down and there are water puddles everywhere. Local people use mainly flip-flop's as they are the handiest. Shoes will get all wet but flippies will even be dry quicklier... Mainly I used flippies on my two weeks holiday; when I went to beach, out for a walk in the village, to the groceries and even when I went to a bar for a drink. I did not need any other shoes except when flying back home on the airplane. Guess if I packed four different pair of shoes with me and I only used the flip-flops! Dont over pack your suitcase with too many pair of shoes a couple will do fine: flippies and something a bit more formal? It is a bit different if you are staying in a fancy hotel. Then you need to be prepared with proper shoes.

Travel Light!

Don't take too large a suitcase as I did and then fill it to capacity! I ended up paying £93 in excess baggage as we bought far too many gifts and my case was already full on the way out, they are strict on allowances and charge 10 euro per kg over your allowance and the allowances have been dropped from 31kg to 23kg as from 3rd October (on British Airways - not sure of other airlines) Our hotel required you to cover swimwear (clothes not just a sarong) in the restaurants at all times and I found I didnt use the sarongs I took for that reason.Would recommend an umbrella if you are getting out and about on the island as Mauritius is prone to sudden showers.Evening wear in our hotel varied a lot, it did specify no jeans or trainers but a lot of men seemed to be wearing them and no one said anything. I only saw a couple of men wearing suits, the majority wore smart trousers and a shirt....

Just in case

We holidayed here in July, be on the safe side and pack a light waterproof jacket. You may have a few light but prolonged showers, don't waste the time, go for a walk along the beach to the 'locals' beach. Lots of trees. From the hotel it is just a short walk into the local village where you can buy Polo Ralph lauren clothing etc. Take plenty of film or waterproof cameras, there are so many things to photograph. Plastic/rubber shoes for walking in the sea, there are Sea Urchins close to the beach because of the close vicinity to the reef.

Mosquito stopper and Immodium

by kixon

Lock your bags, the terminal and airport is a bit dodgy, I ot my bag one day later, luckily all was intact.. very light clothes, very chic ones if you're on luxururious hotels. No jeans and shorts allowed on those places at dinner. Immodium! Even though it is very clean and good food in general accidents can happen, and you might get something bad in your digestionsssystem, Immodium stops dhiarrea, and you can also take ills against vomiting Lot's of sunscreen and aftersun, Put the aftersun in the fridge and it will cool your skin after sunbathing. Books books and books, there's nothing to do on the beach I was at :D

FLY LIGHT

by johanl

A small bag will do, since the only thing you need is swimminggear and a T shirt. So dont pack too much. dont forget to bring your underwater gear.It can be rented, but you own gear always fits better, pharmacies are all over the island. It is best t bring you own medecins, if required. it's a MUST to be able to take underwater pictures. So bring your underwater housing or a disposable one, which can be bought on the island. always wear shoes (plastic or surf) while going into the water. You dont want to get stung by one of these fishes.
