Our most favorite Restaurant on the island was Jack's Pub in Trou d'eau Douce. It is along the main road to the Le Touesrok Sun Hotel. It does not look like much from the outside. Except that they show off a big menu. But when you actually want to order something of it, they do not have anything. That's how it works: You just get whatever the family eats for dinner and that is just the best! If they know that you will come back the next evening you can choose the main ingredient (fish, chicken). The owner (Mr Dave) is such a nice person.
Favorite Dish: The real local food.
Originally a rustic gamekeeper’s lodge, the restaurant has been conceived as a large verandah, with a balcony view over the whole of the mountainous area, sweeping down to Baie du Cap, Le Morne and beyond.
The restaurant serves a cuisine based on French cuisine and traditional local flavours.
Don't forget to sign the guestbook and read what Prince Edward, Jacques Chirac or Sonia Gandhi wrote.
Favorite Dish: Start with a Pina Colada. Try a Medallions of lamb sautéed served with potatoes and garden vegetables. For dessert ask for their pineapple slices in light caramel and rum sauce served with coconut ice cream.
You also have a choice of seafood, chicken and venison.
Sunset Cafe overlooks the water and on a warm sunny day it is the best place to be in Grand Baie. From memory the seating is mostly on the deck overlooking the bay and the food is everything from casual like toasted sandwiches to full meals containing wonderfully fresh seafood, or just pop in for a cool drink or some of their excellent coffee. Go there, you'll love it.
Favorite Dish: After 11 years?? I only remember we kept going back!
The La Faya restaurant is situated in the Nirvana Block of Le Meridien Hotel. Serves an amalgamation of American and Continental cuisine. But more than the food it should be visited for it ambience and location. Its amazing to have breakfast by the sea or a late night romantic dinner at La Faya. Saturday nights they have live guitarists playing and makes a perfect setting for a romantic dinner with your loved one. Do try it if you are staying at the Meridien.
Favorite Dish: Chicken Pasta and Vegetrian Pizza was good.
The hotel restaurant was very good quality food, on five nights there was a set menu with two starters a choice of two mains and dessert. Each night we found this really good, which we didnt expect having little choice in the menu. The other two nights were buffet with lots of different foods available.
Favorite Dish: The buffet nights were very good.
Indian Restaurant -Classic Indian cuisine applying continental methods.
As I was dining alone the staff were even more attentive. I was warmly welcomed and a bindi was placed on my forehead and I was led to my table. The restaurant is small but stunning and overlooks the pool and caberet area.
Overlooking Hisbiscus and Trou d'Eau Douce Bay, Safran unfolds around an open kitchen and tandoori ovens fill the air with exotic scents and fresh aromas. The menu is highly sophisticated, a modern interpretation of classical Indian cuisine conceived by London-based Michelin-Star Chef Vineet Bhatia and his colourful creations.
A more intimate dining experience, Safran’s open sides are framed by chic wooden shutters, mother-of-pearl bases to its bar and tandoori ovens, cutlery styled like old Indian daggers, beautiful glass and gold leaf plates, glassware that glows in the light and elegant copper cooking hoods over the ovens create a chic, designer-led ambience.
Serving dinner only. Closed on Wednesdays
The menu is extensive and mouthwatering. If you like Indian food you will love Saffran.
Favorite Dish: I had a dotti to start which is a rice pancake which surrounds curried potatoe.
My main course was a Masala Chichen madras served with fluffy coconut rice and melt in the mouth naan bread.
For dessert I went for gulabjamon which is a light suet covered in warm syrup - very sweet but very good.
It was all washed down with a local beer which was suprisingly light and refreshing.
Barlen's is designed according to Feng Shui principles, with fiery under-lighting at the bar and a water-filled moat sealed with glass beneath the feet. Host Barlen, has been with Le Touessrok since the resort’s earliest days, looks after every need with incomparable charm and efficiency.
During the day, guests choose from sushi and sashimi, Western char-grills, Japanese grills, salads and appetizers - perfect beachside dining, which can best be described as "Asian with a twist".
Barlen's Bar adjoining the restaurant provides a wonderful view across Trou d'Eau Douce Bay. Sit back, relax and inquire about the special Zen and Now cocktails.
Serving lunch and dinner. Closed on Sundays for dinner.
At Le Touessrok, dining is a sublime experience touching all the senses as guests embark on a worldwide journey of culinary discovery. From the spices and fragrances of Northern India and the pure, fresh ingredients of Japan, to the tropical tastes of Thailand and more, the resort showcases the finest in Occidental and Oriental cuisines, with a dining venue to match every mood.
Set on three different levels with eight spectacular open kitchens, it resembles a high-style international market place through which guests can meander choosing foods to suit their moods. Chefs prepare traditional crepes, home-made breads, croissants and pastries, freshly-made pastas and sauces, and brick-oven pizza. There is also an incredible fresh salad bar and an Asian noodle bar with wok dishes sizzling with noodles from Japanese udon to Chinese mee. A traditional rotisserie features classic French turning spits as well as the vertical grills used in the Middle East, serving basket-roasted fish and chicken.
Serving breakfast and dinner.
Favorite Dish: The breakfast and dinner buffets on offer each evening were amazing. I would have to say that the freshly sqeezed juices and pancakes made to order were the way I chose to start each day.
La Colombe has some great Chinese and Creole dishes. There are lots of seafood dishes on the menue, but Vegetarians like myself do find somethings aswell.
Service was prompt and prices are very reasonable.
They have live music on Saturdays.
At the Port Louis Water Front Mall, you will find this food court along with various other restaurants. But the good thing about the food court is that you will get a variety of cuisines so if each person in a group has various tastes, then you can try stopping here. Tikka Masala is highly recommended for Indian food lovers here, the taste could be called the closest to indian food.
Reubens Restaurant is on the way from Black Mountain to Seven Colours of Sand.
First the positive points are that the location and food are amazing if you are looking for local seafood. The prices are average not very expensive.
The Major Negative point is that these guys do not understand the concept of service and time. They will tell you that your order would take 15 mins and deliver after 1 hour. I had to literally shout at them to get the food delivered to my table.
Nothing for Vegetarians.
Favorite Dish: Large Prawns in Creole Sauce and Fried Squids were quite nice

I really enjoyed going to this restaurant. Thanks to our driver (Oodaye) he tooks us there. I don't particular like too much Indian food because it is extremely very spicy for me, when they say is a bit spicy it means a lot to me, but this time here in this restaurant I had the option and really the food was delicious. I really liked it. We almost ate at this restaurant every night. We ate early dinner around 6 pm. Later on it gets very busy and you have to do a line to get in. The tandoor chicken was good and tasty they cooked the chicken in a special cook they had by the tables and the smell is more tempty and you get actually more hungry when you smell the chicken.
As you can see from the photograph the restaurant was beautiful. The meal plan for this hotel was all inclusive. The menu alternated between 'Buffet' style and 'a la carte' and the quality of food was excellant.
