SNORKLING

For some reason, I was not very impressed with the snorkling and diving. We stayed around the Mount Choisy area and we took a catamaran to Saint Gabriel island which was about 1 1/2 hour boating from Grand Bay and I saw many corals and reefs distroyed, some of them looked like a graveyard like the Tsunami really stopped by Mauritius and messed up all the marine. It was not colorful at all, too many boats near the shore and the waters were not very clear.

Snorkeling

Particularly around the marine park in Blue bay there is some trule wonderful snorkeling experiences. In fact the whole island is filled with vast arrays of fish and are easily assessable either by boat or by swimming out in the shallow bays.

Surfing

Theres some great surfing and windsurfing to be done in Mauritius on some world famous spots. Most of the beaches are predominately in bay or lagoon areas however The main surf spots in Mauritius are concentrated on the south and south west side of the island. The swell size on Mauritius is generally about 1 m smaller than that on Reunion, this being attributed to the less steep coral reef drop-offs, and the fact that Reunion blocks off the swells moving in a north easterly direction from the Southern Oceans. The best months for surfing are between April and September. The wave is know as the "Tamarin"

Plongée sous marine

Il est désormais possible de louer des VTT un peu partout dans l'île pour explorer de façon plus sportive. Attention toutefois sur les routes, à la conduite à gauche, et à la manière de conduire, plutôt particulière des automobilistes mauriciens. N'oubliez pas, non plus que vous êtes sous les tropiques, et prévoyez des protections solaire et de l'eau !It is henceforth possible to rent some VTT almost everywhere in the island to explore sportier way. Attention however on the roads, to the left-hand driving, and to the manner to drive, rather particular of the maurician's drivers. Don't forget, either that you are under the tropicses, and foresee some protections solar and of water!
