How about renting a car?

by sg085

If you want to take a look around the island, it might be good if you could rent the car yourself. You could get the car in vary prices. Some might costs to 2000 rupees, some might be only 600 rupees, see how much you will prefer the car to be.You might not really interested to take the bus, as it might take a long while to reach your destination..I don't have any idea on the hotel's transportation. But if you really want to go around, renting a car might be a good choice than taking the bus, or renting a taxi. But some taxis could offer good price for the tourists though.

Scooters

by AndreSTGT

Despite the extensive bus network on the island, it is fun to discover some parts of the island by scooter. They can be rented in many hotels and shops. Prices range from 12-18€ per day. Some highlights, esp. in the Black river canyon area (e.g Tamarin and Rochester falls) are not accessible by public transport.Driving is on the left. On most back roads traffic is light and it's safe to ride. Beginners should avoid the main roads and bigger towns.

public transportation is very...

by bobbert

public transportation is very good (well, depends on your standards of course), rather comfortable and cheap. Also a good way to meet people. Walking around and cycling (if you are staying somewhat longer, you can buy a bicycle and sell it/ give it away when you leave. They are not expensive and a common way of transport)

Punctual and cheap bus service

by jiminysimmo

All of the island is easily accessible through the island bus service. This is agreat way to get around althouh sometimes the bus takes a circuitous route. You really see the island and ts people. It is very cheap we paid the equivalent of 18p to travel fom our hotel front doorstep into Port Louis about 12 miles.

Air Mauritius

by NetClone

If you planning to fly to Mauritius with Air Mauritius, make sure you plan some buffer time for your travel. We have about 6 hours delays when we going to Mauritius, our ETA was 6pm and we only reach there about 12am!And again another 7 hours delay when we leaving Mauritius. So if your flight get delay make sure you ask Air Mauritius to pay for you meal and transport to airport.

Getting there

by AndreSTGT

One drawback of Mauritius is the cost of getting there. The cheapest option from Europe is to take a last- minute charter flight (from France and Germany in particular).Regular prices for charter flights are around 800€, but if you are flexible, there are often some good last minute deals to watch out for.I bought my ticket through www.ltur.de and paid only 380€ for a return flight from Munich.

Local buses

by AndreSTGT

The cheapest way to get around in Mauritius are the local buses. There are frequent connections to pretty much everywhere on the island and rides are cheap (e.g. Mahébourg-Port Louis,2h, 75c).There are bus stop throughout the island and the direction of the bus is indicated on a sign in front. You pay inside the bus, once you have stated your destination.
