La Marmite Mauricienne is a small, laid back restaurant in the beach resort of Trou aux Biches. I ate lunch here one afternoon during my visit to Mauritius in February 2008.
This restaurant can be found on Trou aux Biches Road, about a 5 minute walk inland from the beach.
You’ll find a handful of tables in the open air dining area, and more tables located indoors, and you’ll find a menu that prominently features seafood dishes, as well as pizzas, curries and traditional Creole dishes.
The menu includes shrimps, fish, octopus, squid, crab, lobster, chicken, beef and lamb. Most of these ingredients are included in at least one Creole-style dish on the menu, and in at least one garlic sauce or curry sauce recipe.
I opted for:
”Prawns cooked Maurician style” - Cost: 195 Rupees / 3.30 GBP
A dozen or so medium sized prawns in a sauce that included tomato, green peppers, onions and a variety of herbs and spices. It was effectively a very mild but fairly tasty curry, and it was served with a portion of steamed white rice.
A glass of Sprite - Cost: 20 Rupees / 0.35 GBP
A glass of ice cold Phoenix beer - Cost: 40 Rupees / 0.70 GBP
A good choice of seafood dishes and Mauritian specialities in a laid back restaurant.
