Take at least one full day trip by own or hired car and drive or buy a tour to wonderful Antiatlas Mountains with city of Tafraoute (140 km, 87 mi one way). Visit beautiful and unique Berber's villages, amazing painted roscks near Agard-Oudad (land-art) and enjoy your eyes with views over unique rocky formations and stunning mountain landcapes with small, tiny villages in valleys. Simply a must!
My first full day trip to Tafraoute from Agadir made me crazy to come back there again and I did it on the way to Western Sachara a few days later.

As we live in the busy metropolitan of Paris, on our holiday we naturally look for calm places and unspoiled nature. Already the second day after our arrival we took the bus number 12 (you can catch it from the Boulevard Mohammed V) to Taghazoute. Taghazoute is a small fisherman village about 17km north from Agadir. Between Taghazoute and Tamharkt (village before) there is an enourmous beach, which was (at least in September) almost empty. We rented surfboards from a local and left our bags to his private beach ( we were the only customers) while we went surfing. The surfing spot we liked the most was called "Devil's rock". By the way surfboards weren't that easy to find, we were really lucky to bumb into a local surfer. The best way to find boards to rent is to contact a surf school called 'Dynamic Loisirs', owned by french couple in Tamharkt

During our one-day excursion to Taroudant and Tioute, we stop the minibus to watch the goats in the tree (Yes this is a real picture) The shepherd told us that they climp and decend perfectly well without any help!

From Agadir it's very easy to visit Tafraoute and the area around in one day. Tafraoute is 130 KM south east of Agadir.
The landscape around Tafraoute is wonderful. Mountains of pink granite, or purple in the shadow, valleys with thousands of palmtrees and Berber villages.
This remote area is prosperous, due to its fertility, but even more by the succes of the men, travelling for business to the cities for their fortune.
The villages around Tafraoute are more interesting to explore than Tafraoute itself.
3 KM south of Tafraoute you can see a rock formation called Napoleon's hat and the blue painted rocks by the Belgian artist Jean Veran.

South of Agadir along the coast stretches for seventy KMs the Sous Massa National Park.
We took the south entrance at 58 KM from Agadir near the Oued Massa. We booked a tour with a landrover to cross the area back to the north to Agadir.
The park is an area of tidal creeks and lagoons, but you can also see sanddunes and cliffs. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery.
There is a large variety of birdlife in the Park like the bald ibis and species of the crane, duck, flamingo, heron and many more. We saw a lot of birds, but we didn't see mammals. In the area are the red fox, genet, wild cat, jackal and wild boar.
