from Marrakech to the Sahara

by lizalincoln

My dream about going to the Sahara was finally going to be fulfilled. I did not have a clue about where to look, so i started searching on Google about the Sahara. We had already booked our flight and Hotel in Marrakesh. I then bumped into Tripadvisor, and was this site helpful! (Thanks to all the guys and gals who write real good stuff!)After reading it became clear that there were two places we could go to in Morocco. The Erg Chebbi or Erg Chicaga. After further research we decided for the Chebbi, although we was a bit fearful that it was a bit commercialised from what i read, however thisdid prove to be wrong. There were two ways of going to the Saharah, either by via a group tour, or private tour. The former being far more affordable, whilst the latter allowing far more freedom. From a previous holiday, we understood the value of that personal touch, so we decided on a privatetour....

hiMy dream about going to the Morocco was finally going to be fulfilled. I did not have a clue about where to look, so i started searching on Google about Morocco. I then bumped into fodors, and was this site helpful! (Thanks to all the guys and gals who write real good stuff!)After reading it became clear that there were two ways of traveling in Morocco either by via a group tour, or private tour. The former being far more affordable, whilst the latter allowing far more freedom. From a previous holiday, we understood the value of that personal touch, so we decided on a privatetour. Next, the question was who ?Again after reading reading reading, I came across forums discussing a guide called oubza youssef . So I contacted him via email and he replied real quick, something which i could not say about another guide i had contacted. He gave us the tour details, and I gave him our personal...

Where to buy alcohol in Marrakesh

by sukey113

We just got back from Marrakesh. They don't sell alcohol in the Asima supermarkets (well not the ones we went in). You need to go to the big Marjane one (we found one on the road to Casablanca - NW of any big maps), which was a lot like Tesco, selling most things from colouring books to Heineken. The local beers aren't that bad though. We tried Casablanca beer amongst others! We have two young children so didn't get to go out in the evenings :0)Most restaurants seem to have a license and sell the usual alcohol you'd find in UK, US.Happy to helpClaire Aquatica Waterpark was the best - we have two young children and went in July so we needed to cool down and have fun! Also Zohra our cook was amazing and I now need to invest in a Moroccon cook book :0)

Sunshine all year round!

by john9159

Eating ice cream on the beach whilst watching the sun set.Walking on the beach for hours and paddling in the sea.Experiencing the various foods and those delicious sweets from the patisserie. The Atlas mountains are just fantastic with magnificent views from up there. The magnificent sunset. The hot weather all year round! The beaches. Relaxation - I can so easily forget everything that goes on at home. I do miss my cats though but know they are in caring hands. Seeing people there I haven't seen for a year.

The roof tops of Tangier!

by jgemini65

I LOVED looking out over the roof tops of this underrated city! But my fondest memory is when a bunch of small school boys approached me and said, "where are you from?" and I responded "America" and the broke out in applause and said "welcome, welcome to Morocco!"

by BateauIvre

Thanks! Basically I want to know: what is the best route to see Marrakech, Fez, Chefchaouen and have an overnight stay in the desert and see the Atlas mountains? And not only the best route, but the best way to do it (car, taxi, train, plane). [We are flying in and out of Marrakech and have 11 days total]. I was also after advice about whether this was a do-able amount to cover in the time. I don't want to be travelling all the time...Thanks.

cTM/car rental to merzouga

by travel-writer

hiring smoll car is recommended or take a CTM from casablanca to errachidia then take grand taxi to Rissani then TRANSIT / GRANDTAXI . any way hiring a car is an advantage because hiring cars from RABAT/CASABLANCA is cheaper then marakech .from casablanca it take allmost 10/11h so spend a night between the two areas will be good choice .in your way back take a road from erfoud to visit the TODRA/DADES gorges then marakech spend a night in ouarzazat ( hotel les JARDINS DE OUARZAZAT is recommended so hotel SAGHRO )les nomade or assou are recommended desert trip hotel also do an overnight in the dunes but with poor service .
