ATM - Cheat Sheet

by irvbur

Although ATM machines are to be found all over, the transaction is always in local currency. BE PREPARED. For example, do not go up to an ATM and think you'd like to withdraw $500 worth of local currency. You first must know the amount in local currency that $500 will buy. I always carry a currency cheat sheet when travelling. In addition to ATM transactions, it's also easier to bargain and make purchases. For a cheat sheet go to to http://www.oanda.com/cgi/convert/cheatsheet

For your first visit to Morocco...

by sudarabajan

I would have to say that my favorite thing about Morocco was playing in the Merzouga Dunes of the Sahara Desert, located in Merzouga. It's one thing to see it on television and a whole other experience to actually be there, plus you can take some of the most amazing pictures there that will look unreal when you develop them! Spending time with my girlfriend there was the main reason for even going, since she's there studying abroad. I had no idea that I would be going halfway across the world just to spend time with a woman, but since I fell in love with her, I couldn't see myself not attempting to do it at all, and I am a better man for it.

Visit With The Traditional Berber People

by Bali-Babe

The ancient Berbers have inhabited Morocco since Neolithic times. Moroccan Berbers live primarily outside Fes, Marrakech, Quarzazate, and Agadir and they speak four different dialects: Riffi, Tamazight, Tahelheit, and Soussi. Not much is known about their origins and their physical features range from dark and rounded sub-Saharan traits to light skin and blue eyes.Being Berber has a negative connotation and stigma. Most Moroccans are more than 50% Berber, although they would never acknowledge it. In arabic, Berber means "barbarian". Their Pagan rituals are forbidden by Islamic law, and their alphabet is nearly obsolete in the schools. Many Berbers are now speaking Arabic and French.Older school Berber women still tatoo their faces to indicate what lineage they are from. It is also said that the tattoos are put on the faces so that if a Berber woman is abducted from her village, they will...

The Highest in North Africa

by zweiblumen

Ascending Jebel Toubkal, at 4167 metres, the highest mountain in North Africa. The effort, the lack of oxygen, the headache I had for several hours afterwards, the views from the top .. but most of all .. standing there and realising that I had done it. That's me on the left with the big hat and long hair!

Flight TUB9401 to Fès

by Luchonda

"Cabine crew - be prepared for landing."I was surprised that the flight from Bxl to Fès only took 2hr40 - and the time difference in June was 2 hours. Ideal schedule to enjoy this city trip in northern Africa The fabulous trip through the desert in Quarzazate and a visit to the oldest imperial city - Fès. More other highlights to see in Morocco - i know - like Marrakesh, Agadir, Rabat and so many more. But time and banking facilities will schedule my next trips

Up to the north of Africa

by Luchonda

Always impressing - crossing the different continents in this small world.Over sea - over land - a window seat is the topic. Don't ask me the name of the place - maybe some geographics can tell me.Anyhow the northern coast of Africa - if the world didn't turn upside down The desert in southern Morocco, the imperial city Fès in the north, the idea to go back, visiting Marrakesh and Agadir and so many other places

Tip Photo
Morocco - the south

by Luchonda

The South is a region rich in folklore and spectacular scenery, dotted with small oasis villages and quiet towns surrounded by orchards and olive groves. The locals and the Landscape - Atlas Mountains !!Just great and though so different from Namibia (another page-another history )!!

Tip Photo
Morocco - the north

by Luchonda

Fès - old and new, Fès el Bali, Fès el JididIn the picture : Gateway to the old city town, there are four of them. North, south, east and western side.In front - a huge marketplaceThe total surface of Fès Medina is about 3000 acres - you will find everything behind this walls - plenty of shops, but also some hidden monuments like the university, mosques and gorgeous private houses.

Essaouira

by thenugget31

I would recommend visiting Marakesch and just looking around the square, its an interesting place... Also the town of Essaouira is worth a visit.. Its a very relaxed town where apparently Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley used to hang out... You can buy locally made instruments like Bongo drums etc and just generally chill The fish market which I think was near Marakesch was an interesting experience, be prepared for some serious haggling!

Marrakech

by barryg23

I was expecting great things of Marrakech and it did not disappoint. The colour and the energy in this city made a visit here the highlight of our trip. In Djemaa el-Fna, Marrakech's legendary square, there is enough going on to keep you entertained for a week.
