Haggling and haggle

by NEILHALLIDYA

Most morrocans will hassle you about everything. To them its a game. and part of the culture, and they can get very animated (almost intimidating).Remember its a game. Keep your patience. And sense of humour. And be firm and assertive. After a while you start to almost enjoy it.If you hire a guide ensure you are very clear on what you want and very clear on what is included in his price. In the middle of Marrakesh they have put a lot of time and effort into "toning" down the extreme hassles. You still get it (its part of the culture) but provided you use common sense and retain your sense of humour you wont get into trouble. Standing on top of Jebel Toubkal. Blue sky looking across snow capped mountains towards the brown windswepped peaks in the sub-sahara. The best view I have ever seen. I "almost" get sentimental thinking about it. It made the haggling and batering to get htere more...

Looking back over 3 years.

by jazzygirl

I still love a lot about Morocco. The culture as I see it, the food, and the laidback pace of life. I have learned a lot and people have been generous and tolerant. However, my enthusiasm has been subdued since that first year. I am tired of being treated like a 'walking dollar sign', I am tired of being harrassed for my passport, I am tired of stepping over and around beggars who seem to think it is alright to yank at me when I don't hand out money. If I had to show a friend just one place, it would have to be Marrakech. Stereotypical as that is, it's fun and relatively hassle-free.The beach in Asilah is nice too. So is the desert in Merzouga. My favorite memory is browsing the souks that line the Jma el Fna in Marrakech while my sons filmed the touts harrassing me to buy. It is one of the most hilarious home videos we have.

Terra à vista!!

by johnsakura

These is the first look you have of Africa coming from Spain down south near Algeciras (port city to Morocco). These mountains look just wonderful, some people call them the mounatins of the dead lady cos the shape of the upper rocs are quite similar to a woman laying down. This view of the Gibraltar Straight is quite beautiful to see.

Tip Photo
