FLAMINGO: No alcohol watering

by svenserena

Yes, there are nightclubs in Morocco! It's definitely an experience but don't expect too much. The one nightclub I went to in Agadir is called Flamingo. Yep, it's straight out of the 80's. The music they play is very European and modern. The place is full with hookers but no worries girls...they're not the Bangkok type of hookers. You can have a fun night without even meeting one of them. The weird thing is that every drink has the same price. So if you drink a brew it's quite expensive but if you have any type of drink it's fairly cheap again. Which means if you're on a mission head straight for the booze! I have one more tip: keep an eye open for the tourists with red wristbands. That means they're on an all inclusive holiday trip and drink for free at the club. Be nice to them and they will hook you up with some free liquor!!! No flip flops otherwise you're fine! They're all out for...

Christmas in Morocco

by JamalMorelli

Little Background The prophet Jesus (pbuh) is as important as the prophet Muhammed in Islam. Jesus (pbuh) will be responsible Two of the longer suras in the Quran are named "Imran" (father of Mary) and "Maryam" (Mary) and is referred to throughout the Quran."And she (Mary) who guarded her chastity, so We breathed into her of Our Spirit and made her and her son a sign for the nations"„—Qur'an, 21:91So, Jesus (pbuh) and Mary. High regard and respect. Moving On This being said - none of the prophets are worshipped in Islam and their birthdays are observed warily (if at all), some calling observing any prophet's birthday (including Muhammed's) a form of rejected idol-worship.Christmas, then, statistically doesn't get any special observance here in Morocco except from the mostly ex-patriate Christian community and will therefore pass without any grand scale public celebration. If you wanted to...

Outside: Make love under a billion stars in Morocco

by JamalMorelli

There is enough barren, unpopulated and undeveloped Morocco for you to find a nice spot for you and your honey to get it on.Remember stars? You probably saw some in "E.T" and remember about them in romantic poetry.Well, heavens riches are still out there...waiting for you and your love(s)... Bring a blanket - and remember, while this sexy and highly recommended, it is illegal. I think.

Dull Moroccan Nightlife

by barryg23

We found the nightlife in Morocco to be fairly dull. Outside of some hotel bars and the occasional restaurant it was very difficult to find anywhere serving alcohol. In most towns, the cafes were very popular in the evenings but they did not look like the most friendly or inviting of places. For the most part, these cafes were male only environments and I don't recall ever seeing females - local or otherwise - in the cafes. Hence, my girlfrend was not at all keen to visit these places. We spent most evenings in restaurants followed by the bar at our hotel. The one exception to this was in Marrkech, more specifically in the Djemma el-Fna, where there was always something going on, no matter what the time of day.

Morocco: New Year's Eve, Day and the Eid, 2007

by JamalMorelli

Not to self-incriminate - but before I left Casa last I went around with my Moroccan mates and none of the pubs (even the funky ones) were serving alcohol out of respect for Ramadan (about a week before). If that's the case for the Eid as well, you may be SOL there. But hopefully, that may not be an issue for you, anyway - and if not, the clubs were still really fun in a cinematically sleazy way that my inner-gangster responds to.Some of my Fassi friends and family celebrate New Year's in a supah sweet way that reminds me of the best of alcohol free junior high school parties. Friendly, loving, flirty, wild dancing, popular music. If you stay up for fajr prayer time, you can watch the sacrifice of any number of sheep and be witness to something that is quite central to Islamic society... I would say that would make your New Year's quite different.

Old medinas: Wander the medina at night

by JamalMorelli

When your only company will be cats and whoever is lurking the deep dark shadows of the cave like medina... ...this is not necessarily safe advice - but I'll say that it is easily the most magical experience within the medina for me....Fes being the greatest and then follow your instincts with the others...

Your house or your friend's house: The LEELA

by JamalMorelli

Without giving away too much, the ritual night, or LEELA is a spiritual journey that involves music, trance, food, incense and wouldn't be at all out of place with the idea of an event in late 60's early 70's. You will organize this or have it organized. You have never seen anything like it and you won't afterwards. Dress comfortably and respectably. Loose cotton shirts and pants.

Limited options

by DanielF

Tourists have the choice between attenting Moroccan folklore shows in hotels or large restaurants or Western style night life, which is only available in larger cities, like Tangier, Marrakesh, Rabat and Casablanca (la Corniche area), where the music, the crowd and the atmosphere does not really differ much from some places in Europe.

Agadir by night

by chavez

The first is a picture of writing on the side of a mountain. It translates Allah, King and Country. Beautiful at night as it is all lit up. And an excellent landmark when you get lost. The second is a snake charmer, a hotel guest of honour, thats not the charmer, the snake. The clubs in Agadir have no dress code as long as you have got some clothes on.

Al'anbar: Alcohol in Medina!!!!!

by raenorthern

The medina is dry this was the only place we could find for a drink except in expensive restaurants. It is a deceptive place and looks shut from the outside but go further in and it opens up into a massive dining area. They have the tacky Moroccan dancing themes for coach parties but if you go to the balcony bar you are left alone to have a couple of drinks. it is not cheap however smart casual
