After dark

by mafi_moya

Morocco isn't really the place to come if nightclubs and partying are your main ingredients for a good holiday. In towns then the local male-only bar is usually your best bet for a drink and a chat - in villages you probably won't even get that. Moroccan towns are generally quiet at night - people sat around talking over a pot of tea and so on. Big cities like Marrakech and Agadir offer a bit more - Marrakech has some good top-end bars and a few clubs playing a mix of Western dance music and Arabic pop; the package holiday heaven of Agadir has all the usual Brit/German pubs, karaoke bars and tacky nightclubs and casinos, complete with dozens of prostitutes.

Not Exactly Exciting

by Paul2001

Morocco on a whole has a spotty night life. The town square such as the Djemaa el-Fna in Marrakesh a great fun. However if you are looking for an alcoholic beverage stick to the main hotels. Moroccian bars are rather seedy and western women will definately feel uncomfortable there. It alot more fun sipping on mint tea in a main square.

the heart of Morocco lies in a square

by ccwyin

Eat your heart out at the huge night market square in Marakkech. That's when the night truly comes alive with food stalls selling freshly barbecued seafood & other exotica (steamed snails anyone?). Out comes the veiled ladies paddling henna tattoos and clashing performing groups featuring anything from music, drawfs to cobras. Throes of locals from around the area come to mingle with the tourists and children. till late, the drums pound on.Food wise, No 1 stall was excellent. A full meal for 2 cost USD$6. Try the ginger tea & spice cake fr the smaller stalls as well. My tummy warmed for ages!It is hard pressed to find alcohol in Morocco. In fact, one suspects its easier to get hashish (it is the no.1 exporter of marijuana to Europe). However, there is a lovely hotel that serves beer - unfortunately, I cant remember the name but it was close to the square. ask fellow tourists.

Hotel night spots: Anyone for clubbing?

by Newchocs

Please be aware that alike many countries a Club and a Nightclub are two different things! (If you are male and lonely, please ignore this tip!) The clubs are ok but tend to be full of midnight cowboy look-alikes who have some very novel dance moves. The clubs in hotels are strage because they will allow locals in as long as their are no guests in at the time. Once guests arive, the locals are politely requested to leave. (The male locals anyway!) Remember the film "Midnight Cowboy"?

Teetotalin'

Dont come to morocco prepared to drink, for it is an Islamic Country and alcohol is nowhere to be seen. If you do decide to bring alcohol in, be respectful and only drink in the privacy of your hostel or hotel room.

Marrakesh at night. What else is there to do for 2 women traveling together, but eat at the food stalls, and flirt with the 12 year old dish washer (he asked me to marry him...I was tempted)When you get bored, take a stroll around to see the snake charmers, belly dancers, drummers, water sellers, herbalists, fortune tellers, story tellers..etc...etc

Not Greece, but...

by AndyRG

There is no comparison to the nightlife of Greece where I come from... The most "european" city about it is Agadir, but it's a pity if you visit Morocco for such a nightlife, which can be easily found in your hometown. It's much better to watch what happens all the time at the famous Djemaa el-Fna in Marrakech or admire the sky over the Atlas/Sahara listening to desert blues -as I luckily did!

A great place to eat and watch the various entertainers and snake charmers. However watch what you eat, I got sick. There are more pictures of the Djenaa El-Fna in my travelogue section. Where what you like.

jamah el fana is the best place to get to know moroccan culture or to know 'Marrakchieen' that is a name of people from Marakech and for one prsone you will say 'Marakchi'. you can also enjoy europpen night life if youwant but why not go to europe, if you are in Morocco try to take adventage of surrounding area of marakech 'ourika''Menara'Elhouse' and the beatifull Atlas Montains specialy if your are a hiker. Good luck and shoot me an e-mail if you have any questions .

KSAR ES SAOUSSAN3, Derb Chorfa el Messaoudyenne. Tel.: 04 4440632.To get there, follow Fatima Zohra St from the Koutubia and turn right at Sidi el Yamami St. Some 100 mt after the arch, there is a sign on the wall. A black man in a red gown will be waiting there for you, to take you to the restaurant through some narrow alleys: very mysterious, indeed! This old mansion has been wonderfully restored and offers 3 fix menus with increasing prices (300, 400 & 500 Dh) and amount of food. If you eat normally, a small menu is more than enough (even for 2, I think!!). It includes a cocktail, wine, dessert and tea.
