by girladventure Todra Gorge is actually a tourist destination. We just went there as a tourist but lo and behold....we didn't know it is a climbing haven in Morocco. Bouldering, sport climbing, trad climbing, single pitch/multi putch routes...you name it. Getting there: This is a tough one. Most people come from Marakesh but if you happen to be in Ourzazate it is much closer. A Grand Taxi will get you to Todra in the shortest amount of time. Grand Taxis are cheap. Where to stay: We just went there for the day. If you wish to climb , you stay in one of the hotels by the Gorge. There are 2 that I know of (Yasmina and Mansour). Yasmina is fancier than Mansour and has all the amenities that you need and it's really cheap. A friend of mine chose to stay at Mansour and slept on the roof to watch the stars. He highly recommended it for those who are adventurous. Yasmina is a few minutes past the Hotel Mansour and it is on the right. You have to cross a stream by foot to get to the hotel. Check out my Todra Gorge travelogue for more photos. Leave a Comment

by JLBG The Atlantic coast is rocky. The Ocean is often swelling and breaking on the shores. It is cool if not cold, as the Gulf Stream does not flow in front of Morocco. These conditions are good for fishing and the fishing industry is well developed in Morocco. But this not very good for bathing. There are a few places where you can bathe but the Moroccan coast fits better with surf than swimming. Leave a Comment

Each visit to Morocco Ive always taken things with me that I can give to the local families - especially the children - and especially when I was regularly visiting Telouet - many berber families are still living and working off the land and doing whatever they can do to earn enough to live on - living out in the remote villages usually means harsher living conditions - ie washing clothes by hand, minimal electrical appliances such as clothes dryers - so people seem to make do with less - it can be a good thing to take school stationery supplies and take them to a country school to distribute to children - tooth brushes and paste - I believe theres still that fine line between helping as in understanding lack and wanting to help make things better in any way and the notion that foreigners have everything and have it easy and give handouts - so put your handout and you will get something ie tourists are easy to manipulate.... My latest trip in November to Marrakech with the intention of driving to Agadir for some warm sunny days with friends there but knowing how cold it gets in Morocco and knowing I intended to drive the TiznTest road which has numerous country villages along the way including up in the snowy and very cold mountain areas nearing the pass. And because we have a very good '£' shop near us with sets of scarves, hats and gloves and sets of light raincoats and packs of socks I was able to get quite a few of these to have with me while I was out driving. And along the way when I did stop to take photos - especially of scenic villages in the scenic valleys - when you think noone is around out appear children to say hello! And there were my opportunities to give to these children who were in dirty clothes and looking very skinny - might not be a great deal of help but I think its something to at least give them these things to help them with the cold and wet. by JLBG In the background, behind the barbecue, was the restaurant… But is it really a restaurant ? There are tables and people are eating but, what is that ?? Whole carcasses of beef and of mutton hanging between the tables, with some blood dripping… Is it a butcher's shop ? No, this is really a restaurant, or should I say a butch-aurant !! You are sure that you meat will be fresh, won't you ? Leave a Comment

Laughing friends at meal time, Ramadan by JamalMorelli, 4 more photos If you are Muslim, this is so on the beaten path that I'll just say excuse me now. However, if you aren't you are probably (based on common travel thread questions on Ramadan) filled with ideas about Ramadan being a time that you won't be eating or drinking, fun stops, a time of incredible austerity, no one is open and the majority of the people are in violent and foul moods. This is generally so wrong that it resembles willful obscuring rather than naivety or honest reporting. But in case you really don't know - Ramadan is a incredibly happy time in Morocco... just on the heels of a season of marriage and the wild spiritual energy of the month of Sha'aban, Ramadan asks Muslims to avoid eating and drinking from dawn till dusk for one lunar month. The fasting includes poor behavior, foul language, smoking, cruelty, etc. And then after a day of cleaning one's self out is a night of celebrating - feasting, loving, (in some houses) dancing, laughing, reflecting... I am an ex-pat - now a resident - in Fes and am inspired by traveler's concern's about Ramadan travel. So, I invite any of you to drop by and pass Ramadan with us. If you need to just refresh yourself, give me a call. And just in case this scares you too - remember, we would have had another stranger in your place. Now, in the event you feel self-conscious about drinking and eating while in the medina... the cafes of Bou Jeloud, which are touristy destination in the old medina of Fes, are packed with tourists year round - and they never stop eating or drinking in public. If you are tourist, make it a point to try to fast with the locals and enjoy the nightly celebrations with them - you will certainly have something to talk about... by JLBG In Douyet, we found this restaurant because it was smoking ! I mean that in Morocco when you are in the backcountry, and that you are looking for a restaurant, all you should to do is to look for smoke ! When there is smoke, there ought to be a restaurant. Leave a Comment

zizi morocco by johnsakura This is just another pic of the place which is very nice to swim along the road inside the Gorges du Ziz, on our way from the Tunel of the Legionary and Errachidia south morocco. As you can see the water looks perfetc for a summer swim, altough if the summer is too strong no water will be there to swim. this picture was taken in early april and the temperature was already pretty good to jump into the water and refresh myself. this place is far from any village or populated area so the water is clean. but anyway look welkl before you actually go inside, maybe some sharks will be there or anything... ha Leave a Comment

Sous Massa NP by sachara South of Agadir stretches for 70 KM the Sous Massa National Park, an area of tidal creeks and lagoons, sanddunes and cliffs. The Park has an abundant birdlife with species of ibis, crane, duck, flamingo, heron. There are also mammals like fox, genet, jackal, wild cat and boar. We did see a lot of birds, so it's a nice place for birdwatching, but we didn't see mammals. Leave a Comment
