Light fleece and clothes to layer when cold or hot

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: In all the different months throughout the year and seasons Ive been in Morocco Im no longer surprised at expecting diversity in temperatures and weather at pretty much any time of the year! Ive been in Marrakech in JUne which is mid summer and during the day can be 45-50' and suddenly at night it feel as cold as ice!...and then back to its normal hot house sensations!
Winters can be bitterly cold in many parts - especially desert or mountain areas - particularly at night but can be lovely warm tshirt temperatures if you have sunshine during the day - this is where bringing clothes to layer Ive always found the best way to go - blouses or shirts that can be worn over a tshirt and a fleece or jacket over that and layer up or layer down

think about layering up and down with your shoes/footwear as well....spring, summer and autumn Ive generally found sandles or mule type shoes the best to wear to cope with the heat but of course have a good pair of walking shoes also good for cold or wet spells

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Ear Plugs

Miscellaneous: It is possible that where ever you stay you will not be far from a mosque in which case you are likely to be in ear shot of the the muezzin calling the faithful to prayer. Sometimes it sounds delightful but at 4am might cause you to wake from a deep sleep. Be prepared, Take earplugs.

Voltage and All Dat Noise
JamalMorelli profile photo

Luggage and bags: Nsha'allah, you should be just fine if it does read 125-250; e.g., my Powerbook Mac adaptor reads 100-240 - and so - works as well as it did in New Orleans as it did in Manchester and as it did in Fes. - it is a wide sliding scale between those voltages.

LOOKOUT: It is when there is only one voltage on your appliance/charger/television/etc that you should perk up and find out what your hotel is operating at...

COMFORT: however, the sliding scale V is, as the poet says, a good thing.

By the by, if something sad like a radio of yours does blow up... the electrician/repairman's costs are so wonderfully low that you might want to take advantage of the cheap service.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: bring the items with that offer the wide berth of V, baby.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Toilet roll: It's a rare sight in morocco!!!!!! Bring as mush as you can. It's always useful but more so if you fall ill!!. But please remember not to throw it down the hole in the ground as it may couse plumbing problems. Many times there is a bin there.

Take a Compass

My REI compass

Miscellaneous: I love to explore on foot, and so always carry a compass, but it's even more helpful in Morocco. Some of the old medinas - most notably in Fes - really are labrynths and you will not find any good maps (or, in Fes, even street signs). a compass can really help you retain at least some sense of where you're going.

I use this little sucker from REI. It's under 10 bucks and weighs nothing.

Luggage and bags: On the DVX100: That particular camera is small enought to go under the radar as being a professional camera - what the police call good cameras.
And although this may be obvious, bring the receipt for the camera. The only times I have found myself futzing around with the police for long intervals were during questions of importing/exporting expensive items to/from Morocco: Having all your receipts and traveltimes helps to speed up those generally stressfree (but long) encounters.

Luggage and bags: provisions: Imlil has everything you need in terms of provisions - if you need to arrange to have any belongings carried up the mountain by donkey, this can be arranged at your convience in Imlil. You have a choice of cheap hotels in Imlil, all of which are decent and have restaurants that are more than willing to prepare whatever food you give them as well as the standard tajines, etc.

Also, you can rent gear - trekking shoes, extra jackets, etc. in Imlil as well.

Sleeping bag or no?
JamalMorelli profile photo

2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Should you bring a sleeping bag for hotels? No. Even chumpy budget hotels with the bugblood on the walls will give you extras.

If you decide you want one after all - and you are in Marrakesh, Fes, Casablanca, etc. - hop in a taxi and say "Marjane" - they will take you to a Wal-Mart style mall that has what you need.

(Extra on sheets and hotel: And if you don't like the smell of your sheets, get them to get new ones, pronto - if they don't refresh your blankets, leave.)

Luggage and bags: (Originally for Volubilis, but applicable to any hot place without shade) Depending, this will just be a day trip so don't bring much. Pack water and snacks.

And look, I really recommend bringing an umbrella to provide shade for you.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Light loose flowing clothes...

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Roll of toilet paper (always)

Photo Equipment: Definitely bring a camera here...

Miscellaneous: I will say water again - don't get gouged when you are waterless in the middle of nowhere at a food and water stall.

November and Winter in Morocco

Luggage and bags: WHERE TO GO? A few thoughts...
Unless freezing wind is your thing, I personally would avoid the coast for anything romantic travel where you can enjoy the wildness of the Atlantic - because those winds are going to be cold and tough on you. The interior gets really chilly, too. Bring an extra jacket and a lover. If you think one of your lovers is open to it, bring another lover since it is a precautionary move to cure an abnormally low body temperature, the condition of hypothermia.

The exception to this is Agadir which has God-sent weather which is generally perfect on it's beaches - all year round.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Heavy sweaters, scarves, winter hats, gloves, thick long pajamas

You can also buy all of these things in the sooq or the Marjane supermarkets, while here in Morocco.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Toilet Paper: Toiletries & Medical Supplies: I need to stress that for men and women coming from the west that you keep a roll of toilet paper or something to wipe yourself with at all times. Fes may be a major tourist destination but don't think that means the service resembles Club Med - you are in a city from the middle ages and everything will remind you of that - especially the hole in the floor toilets with the little faucets to wash with near the floor. You will feel more comfortable - don't forget your tissues...

Photo Equipment: LOOK at all the pictures here (all shot in November)
INCLUDING THE WEATHER IN BOTH CELSIUS AND FARENHEIT
in Marrakesh, Fes, the mountains...

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Camping - heavy blankets, warm sleeping bag,

Miscellaneous: Prepare for cold weather in most of Morocco - only the deep south will you find warm weather that you could possibly swim in.

Buy Sidi Ali or Sidi Harazem bottled water - only from the stores and never from children on trains or buses - carry it with you everywhere.
