Climate in Morocco

by Leipzig

When I was there we had three days a hot and dusty wind, the Shirocco. This sandstorm comes directly from the Sahara desert and is really unpleasant because of its heat (around 43°C (110°F)) and the fact of getting dirty when staying outdoors. It also didn't make fun go swimming in the Atlantic. When you come out of the water you're sandy immediately. Close to the Atlantic summers are warm and winters mildin the interior the summers are very hot and the winters are mild with freezy morningsin the mountains summers are warm, winters cold

Bargain in the shops ONLY if you are willing to buy.To argue some time about the price, and then leaving the shop without buying anything will upset the merchants and could cause severe problems.

Definitely a backpack. Limit number of clothes to bring and just wash. Bring twine to hang clothes to dry. Cipro (need prescription from doctor), toilet paper, baby wipes, repellent w/ 33% deet, sunscreen. Powder form of Gatorade or equivalent sport drink (useful if you get dehydrated). Plastic bags (very handy).

Really handy were 2 very lightweight cotton tops. Kept me respectable and cool at the same time. Once again can;t say enough about Lush's solid shampoo in a tin. Never leaks and really light to carry around Got a new point and click camera (for those not into those huge black things). It's a pentax espio with 135 zoom. Really liked it. Must have a sleep sheet. some places that we slept would have made my skin crawl without it.

Be modest and frugal

bring an extra big empty bag if you want to buy a big souvenir from Morocco. Or better you may buy one leather bag here, they are good and cheap. South morocco is warm. Take some good clothes for the moutains if you go out during the evenings. There is everything here. it is better to bring yours

Pack light.Use a small sturdy carry on.That lasted me a month, with no difficulties. You don't need alot of clothes.Buy a djellaba when you get there and you can wear anything you like underneath. It can be stained, wrinkled or ugly.No one will see it and you will always be correctly attired. Most of the time,I wore slide on clogs.I wore boots in the desert because of my snake phobia.Depending on the time you visit, thisis subject to change. In the Spring,it was warm to hot during the day and cold at night. Toiletries are easy to come by,but I still prefer to bring my own.An essential item to bring would be individual kleenex packs and wet wipes. At some point you will encounter the squat toilet...or better still, the sand toilet of the Sahara. It is always a good idea to bring aspirin, immodium D,bandaids, etc. My camera broke in Marakesh. The film was exposed and I lost the picture of me...

For business people, Moroccans do dress up, and you should as well. I was horribly limited because I had expected nice warm weather in April. Well, it was freezing, and raining and I had to layer many pieces on top of each other just to stay warm. So if you visit in April, bring 2 sets of clothes meant for cold weather, a raincoat or slicker, and an umbrella, as well as your short-sleeved suits.

Hey Ladies!! Although it may be warm, be respectful of the culture you are within and cover your body. Short shorts and skimpy tank tops will be frowned upon. I wore t-shirts and knee length cotton skirts. Bring a pair of pants for going into mosques and riding camels ...they are scratchy!!! Seriously though, a good thing to keep in mind when you are sweltering in Marrakesh many Moroccan women are expected to dress like this!

Don't bring a huge hard-sided suitcase! - bring a hat. - you don't need to cover your head, unless you feel like it- don't wear shorts in the more conservative areas - lots of other ways to keep cool but not offend.- do bring shorts/good shoes if you're going to be hiking - powdered Gatorade
