Packing List

backpack or travel bag are best as always if you travel across the country a lot, if you stay in just one hotel, you can take a suitcase as well don´t take along shorts or bermudas - they are not very apropriate since for Moroccons they are underwear. Of course many tourists run around like that, but do you really want to repeat others´lapses and snub the local people? You might need good hiking boots if you go to the Atlas mountains or to the desert - the hamadas can be pretty rough in sandals or moccasins... And of cource sunglasses and some cloth or hat to protect your head. A scarf or a traditional chach has the advantage to protect against the dust as well, if you head for the desert I never had any problems drinking the water from the wells, but if you have a sensitive stomach you might need something to clear the water wherever you cannot buy bottled water. If you have sensitive...

If you going by plane, a good sturdy suitcase. Make sure you bring an under the clothes pouch for Passport, money and the like. Shower sandals come in very handy if you are staying in non-european style accomidations. They wear these in the bathroom/toilet and in non-carpeted areas of the house. So sandals and shower sandals are good...quick to remove, etc. Bring a jacket as the nights can be cool. A hat to shade your face. Girls, short shorts can stay at home unless you want men staring at your bum. At the beach you are expected to be wearing a bathing suit...so that seems to be okay. Most medicines can be gotten at the chemists, though you may need a translater to ask for them. They have Immodium...Thank God! I brought pain relievers, lip balm, hand lotion, tums, immodium AD, Sudafed (it can be very dusty and many of the rag stuffed pillows are full of dust mites), heartburn...

Play it real safe here in Morocco. Keep your clothes looser and longer especially when you're out shopping in the souks or even, walking along the streets etc. Believe me, in cities like Fez and Marrakech, the men will not hesitate to gawk at you... It's like they could literally undress you with their stare! Eeks... In Rabat and Casablanca, the folks there are more westernized and hence, you won't be sticking out that much like a sore thumb. Phew!It is not uncommon to see Moroccan women dress in colorful kaftans (is that what you call those long flowing outfits?) and covering up three-quarters of their faces along the streets and in the souks. So, this is a signal for you to also dress conservatively. Leave those shorts at home... Or you can use them when you're trudging on the sands of the Sahara Desert O.K.? These are the absolute necessities. So DON'T ever forget to pack them...

Northern Morocco is a country with a lot of rain in winter and spring.Don't forget warm clothing, suitable for rain.It sometimes rains that worse that the water stands some 5 or 6 cm on the road!Even in the south it rains from time to time. And the dry country mutates very quick to a land of mudd!

Toilet Paper

by oceania26

Be sure to keep a roll with you regardless of where you travel. You will often find yourself in a toiler that does not provide toilet paper or that has run out.
