This Kasabah was built El Oualid in 1634. El Oualid is The Saadi Sultan who also gave the town his name. The Kasabah is collapsing with a very bad state of neglect. The keeper is living inside the Kasabah. You can still climb the outer towers and see the canons.
When I visited I saw group of Architects taking measurements and conduction initial studies to start a restoration and renovation process. The Keeper is a very nice person but I really don't see any reason to try and gain access to see the inner part of the Kasabah.

Oualidia has gorgeous crescent shaped lagoons with natural high cleft barriers to the sea. The beaches are not very crowded during high peak summer time. Why? will Morocco has more than 1000 mile of beaches and Oualidia is the crown jewel. The waters have a stunning clear colours. These lagoons are perfect for fishing sailing and swimming.
It is no wonder that late King Mohammed the V (the grand father of current King Mohammed VI) chose Oualidia as his retreat and vacation home. You can see that house (white house) from a distnace in one of my pictures. I have not attempted to get near the house. I don't of the house is currently used by the royal family or not.
If you are into Bird watching (which I am not) than Sidi Moussa beach to the north of Oualidia is a perfect spot for such thing

Apparently Oualidia has a perfect temperature and condition for these farms. The shallow lagoons of oualidia is ideal for this kind of farming. This industry was launched in this area in the mid fifties. Each post you see in these picture marks a spot where a very big cage was immersed into the sea. These cage are full of these Oysters. The current yearly production approach to 300 tonnes annually.
You can come during the harvest months and see how they get these Oyster out. The owner of the Hotel is also an owner of some of the cages. This is a serious business with 24 hr security. very interesting.
