After our desert trip the fast way by 4WD, we arrived in Hassi Labied to make our desert trip the slow way by camel. I always like to ride on a camel. So I did for a few days in the White desert in Egypt and participate in a camelrace in Maralal in Kenya. This time we decided to spend only one night in the dunes of Erg Chebbi. So we had a short ride in the afternoon and one back the next morning.
We started our camel ride into the dunes. The sun was allready very low, so we could see the long shadows in the yellow orange sand of ourselves on the camels (picture 3). After some time we saw only dunes all around. After about two hours we reached our little camp with nomad tents in a sheltered place in the dunes

When we visited Rissani in 2008, we decided to make the 4WD deserttrip which our hotel Ennasra offered. From Erfoud we headed to the black desert. We visited a nomad family and a small village close to the Algerina border. After the tarred road we went off-road. Sometimes we followed some tracks and pistes, sometimes we just drove in the middle of nowhere without any track around.
Though we brought a car ourselves, it was nice to do this trip. The driver with its 4WD could bring us to places we couldn't go with our Kia Picanto.

In 2008 we came to Rissani by car. With Air Maroc we arrived in Ouarzazate at midnight. The next day we got our nice little hired car (Kia Picanto). We took a lovely scenic and quiet route from the Draa Valley, spending the night in Nkob half way, to Rissani.
The tarred roads were ok and well signposted. The landscape was great. We could stop where ever we liked. We had a hotel just at the point where the Nkob road connected with the Erfoud-Rissani road. Not far from here is the starting point of the 21 km long Circuit Touristique of Rissani which we drove with our own car.
Also the kasbah hotels in Hassi Labied and Merzouga along the Erg Chebbi dunes can be easily reached by car.

In 1975 I visited the Rissani area for the fist time. The road from Rissani to Tinerhir we took, was very scenic. At several parts we saw scattered palmtrees and some houses and dwellings along the road.
We travelled at the edge of the desert, so we had often small sanddunes on the road. Luckily it was never a problem for our truck to pass all this sand and the several small sanddunes.
It was great to experience the desert this way.

In 1975 I travelled in an international group with an organisation called Jet trek, based in London. We travelled in a truck. With this truck we could easily drive all kind of tracks and pistes in the desert. I really enjoyed to travel this way.
And our driver liked it to let experience us as much as possible of the country and the desert by taking these pistes instead of the by the organisation planned tarred roads.
It was great to be in the emptiness of the desert.

You can go to this kind of buses to go to other small villages arround Rissani. You can go to the dunes for instense. Low cost ticket of corse. You'll be travelling along with a couple of locals, goods and some animals also. Godd luck for the adventure.
