Tamanar Local Customs
See inside the house of the Caid
This place is for sale - so anyone interested check this tip out!
This house is no longer officially lived in (I assume its the owner's 'carer' or guardian living in it while they live down at Agadir) nor is it open to the public but friends of friends did not mind at all showing me around their house with history - his father and grandfather had been local officials living here in this house - a huge place with at least 5000 square metres - providing rooms and accommodation for the required family and official guests and then many rooms to the back of the house for all the servants to keep the place running.
I thought the kitchen was impressive with a massive chimney and a number of grills in which tagines would be placed to cook on. Then they showed me the second kitchen!
Water is supplied or stored in an enormous cistern under the ground behind the house. There is the usual huge roof area but its surrounding walls are high and so there is minimal viewing available apart from a few slots around the walls.
But there are good views outside the house from its position on the hill above the town to look over the town and its centre.Related to:
