EuroFerrys began its Maritime activities of passenger, vehicle and commercial transport in 1999, running ferries between Algeciras. Ceuta and Tangier.
EUROFERRYS operate 2 relatively new passenger vessels - Atlantica on the Tangier route and Pacifica, the largest highspeed catamaran in the world.
There are three crossings daily. The ferry from Algeciras to Tangier took 2 1/2 hours. The seas were quite choppy on our way there, but you could hardly feel it. We sailed through the Straits of Gibraltar with great views of the Rock of Gibraltar. On board was comfortable seating and lounge areas along with a pricey snack bar and eating area.
On the way back, we took the fast ferry on the Nordic Jet Line, as it was quite choppy. That trip was an amazing 45 minutes. We literally flew over the water. What an experience. This time we were brought to Tarifa.
The posted Tariffs when we went were as follows:
    Passengers - Pasajeros - Passagers
    Adults - Adultos - Adultes: 23,50 Euro
    Children: 11,75 Euro
    Vehicles - Vehiculos - Vehicules: 72.90 Euro
    Motorcylcles: 22,40

Our transportation to and from Algeciras was with "Cost Africa". Pick Ups in various points of the Costa Del Sol at the indicated time schedule. Our pick-up time was around 6 a.m. After collecting many other passengers, we were taken to Algeciras where we were to embark to Tangiers. After our ferry ride we were met by our Moroccan guide and our transportation through Tangiers was with "Viajes Norafrica." The bus was spacious, clean and air-conditioned. Upon our return, this time to Tarifa, we were again met by "Cost Africa" for our return trip to our hotel.
Hans and I were impressed with the services of both companies.

  • What a shock I had in my second visit, from the ferry to the hotel continental, 5 minutes walk, they wanted to charge me 50 dirhams!!! 5 Euros!!! Even more expensive than in Marbella! The petit taxi was a little more reasonable, only 40 dirhams, still 4 Euros, incredible!!!

Ok, many will know about the differences between the petit taxis (the blue ones normally Fiat puntos or small peugeots) and the Grand Taxis (normally bigger cars as old Mercedes and not so old lately), normally you share but in my last visits we had been able to book them for ourselves, for more price .The petit taxis normally do a fix itinerary as if they were little buses . remember to confirm the tariff beforehand and that if you book through the hotel reception it will be more expensive as they will get their own commission

If you take the ferry from Spain, there are a couple of options: Algeciras or Tarifa (also sometimes from Gibraltar). All of them go to Tangier. Also you can cross to Ceuta and from there cross the border to Tetuan (I heard for cars it is easier from there, but if you plan using public transport around Morocco Tangier has better options)

there are a couple of companies to choose, if you go to Algeciras there are boats nearly every hour, from Tarifa the company is called FRS, check at www.frs.com, I use it often as I prefer to leave my car there that at Algeciras, looks much safe and it is high speed (it is says 45 minutes, but I had never been lucky on it, always delays getting into the boat!

You can get buses from many European cities to Morocco that includes the ferry ticket on the bus ticket, Eurolines is most famous one

    THE UPPER WRITING :-)

Most visitors get to Tanger for 1 or 2-day visit either by passenger ferry or faster hydrofoil from Spain (Algeciras) or Gibraltar. Some buy a ferry/bus tour: Ceuta (ferry from Algeciras) - Tetouan - Tangier (details: follow the link given below).

But I arrived to Tangier by own car. I drove from Poland (it's in central Europe ;-) through Germany, France, Spain, took a ferry from Algeciras to Ceuta (it's the cheapest option!), Spanish enclave in northern Africa. I crossed Moroccan border very early in the morning and visited Tetouan first. The road Tetouan - Tangier (54 km) crosses some hills, is well signed, in good condition and almost empty.

After a visit to Tangier, 2 hours before dusk, I took a loop scenic drive to see Cape Spartel (great!) and Hercules Caves (a tourist trap). This secondary, mountainous, renovated road had new, asphalt pavement and was well signed. Direction signs were always written in both Arabic and Latin letters (Tangier = Tanger). Well, the road was a bit too narrow with no shoulders at some parts. But I can't complain, the traffic was very, very light. I got to Asilah for a night that day.

Tanger is located in northern Morocco, at the Atlantic coast at the distance of 100km (62 mi) from Ceuta (Spain - connection shared taxi), 345 km (214 mi) from Fez (connection - train) and 280 km (174 mi) from Rabat (connection - shared taxi).

I was a bit afraid of driving in Moroccan cities for the two reasons:
    - different, chaotic traffic (I experienced it in Turkey and Tunisia before :-),
    - possible thefts.
So, as always, both my car and luggage was insuranced against theft (in Poland). My 5 years old Nissan Sunny had all luggage hidden in a trunk while parked on a street at daytime and no luggage at night.

Warning for fellow thefts: my poor car is equiped in unique (top secret) alarms and there are never any valuables left inside. Better do not waste your time :-).

  • I LEFT MY CAR ON THIS STREET - Tangier
I LEFT MY CAR ON THIS STREET
    by matcrazy1
I was walking around Tangier's medina a few hours which is the only way to visit the old arab town. I didn't drive a car around Tangier. With all that chaotic traffic, narrow streets (with no sidewalks) full of pedestrians, shortage of parking place and "soft" traffic rules, it would be craziness even for me. I would rather took a taxi from Grand Socco.

My first problem was where to park a car in Tangier. I was not going to sleep in Tangier, thus I couldn't leave a car at a hotel parking. I was looking for a safe place not very far from the medina. Well, forget about air-conditioned, underground or multistory parking lots. It's neither Western Europe nor the USA, it's Africa.

As usual, before entering any larger foreign city, I studied a map (French Michelin offers the best one) and decided to drive towards Grand Socco. There were many cars and taxis parked on the square but no place for my car. I parked a car on this poor street, up the square, on my picture. My car was left hidden among local cars, at approx. 5 min. walk down Grand Socco. The street was full of local craftsmen (in metal) working hard and noisy.

    Another Ferry

Tangier seems to be a hive of industry as far as ferries are concerned. Our own ferry company runs about 12 crossings each way daily. Then there's another company that departs from Tarifa, not far from Algeciras. and I think there are ferries from the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, the the Northeast of Tangier. This one arrived as we were departing.

The modern high speed ferries run several times daily to and from Tangier. The depart mainly from the port of Algeciras, and the crossing time is about 1 and a half hours. Customs and boarding facilities are very straightforward, but you must complete two transit cards, one for entry and one for retrun to Spain. If you go with a tour company they will instruct you on completion of the forms.

    Goodbye Espana
    by Geoff_Wright
We were on an Airtours holiday in Spain, staying in Torremolinos. First thing on the day after arrival, the Airtours Rep gave us a 'welcome' and briefing on what tours were available. He spoke about the insurance situation as regards travel and that left us more or less convinced that we should go to Tangiers with the Airtours tour. However, their price was 76 Euros, and, as we didn't book there and then, it soon became clear that there were other travel companies in the town that offered exactly the same tour for much less Euros. Prices varied from 40 to 55 Euros. We took a chance and paid 52 Euros each for our trip. Whether or not there would have been any difference with insurance cover, following any accident, I'm glad to say we never found out!

It's not too easy to find your way through the ferry station. You're likely to be approached by the occasional tout who will take you to the check-in area and then ask you for money.

Don't accept anyone's help -- just keep on walking straight till the end of the paved road, and you will find the check-in area on the right. Then go upstairs and show your return ticket at any of the open counters.

You will be given a tourist card you have to fill in with your name, place and date of birth, passport number and other personal data. Someone dressed up in what seems to be an official uniform will ofer you his help.

Once again, don't accept it -- he doesn't actually work there, and he will ask you for money (as much as 10 €) once he's done, holding your passport and your tourist card as some kind of a (not so) subtle blackmail.
