From the Bab ar-Rih ("Gate of the winds"), above the Medina, you have a beautiful view over the whole valley and the olive groves below. On one side you see the Middle Atlas and on the other the Rif-Mountains. As the name indicates it might be a bit windy at times, but in the summer-time that's a welcome refreshment.

If you feel like taking a long walk, you can stroll throught the less touristic quarters in the Ville Nouvelle at Taza-Bas. Here you will find mostly new buildings and little houses. Though the buildings are nothing extraordinary, you can sometimes find a house "in the making"and get an idea about construction works in Morocco.

Taffert and Tizi Bou Zabel passage 2400m

Taffert and Tizi Bou Zabel passage 2400m

Taza is the starting point of the way thru the very unknown Tizi Bou Zabel pass maybe 100km way from Taza on the Bou Iblane Mountain.
This is located right on the bottom of the Jbel Bou Iblane Mountains. This house is constructed by the Moroccan governement is is to help people on the mounatins when these are caught in big snow storms. This house is away from everything is is ver difficult to find. Before going to the Tizi Bou Zabel passage (2400m high) you find this house on the northern side of the mountain.
Lahseen, the guy that works there is quite nice and will try everthing to please you. ask him for some home made bread which he can make on his oven downstairs of the house. the house is equiped with sun energy. there is no tap water but thers a water spring just a few metres from the house, nice water i drinked it and i was ok after.
you dont have to pay anything, but for politness i gave lahseen 40DH, 4 euros, for 2 people staying there.
to get there you have to make the mountains dirt tracks after Taza direction of the Caves and Merhaoua.

surrounding the house lost in a big trees forest, you just have animals and trees, huge mountains and yourself.
