Catanzaro: Italian in Marakech

by DeoPitt

Moroccan waiters serving Italian food with menus in French. Somehow it works because they seem to really care about making this a nice place. The dishes may not be 100% authentic but we had fresh and tasty dishes with good service in a very clean restaurant. And very inexpensive. Hooray! Had veal saltimboca. It was prepared differently than I'm used to, but it was tasty. Wife got a pizza that we both finished off! Nice change to a week of couscous.

La Maison Bleau, Fes rocks: Who cous? Couscous!

by DeoPitt

The restaurant is actually part of the Riad (guest house) of the same name. We ate on the roof (with only one other couple there, so the service was great). The quality was the best we had in the country. The live musical entertainment was typical (African and Andalusian), but really high quality. Set menu with unlimited wine/drinks (which was typical of high-end rest.). Ask in advance if you don't like chicken/beef/whatever to see if there is any substitute for you. Couscous with sugar and cinnamon...mmmm

Food stalls: Dine out for cheap

by Vintom

You can eat really cheap in Marrakech by sitting yourself down at any of the food stalls that come out at night in the main square.A good meal with soft drink and mint tea should cost no more than 25DH (£1.50/$3.00). These prices are from June 2003.While your in the square you should also try a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice for approx 2DH. Stroll around soak up the atmosphere and sit at any of the stalls to take your fancy. You can get a variety of dishes including lamb, chicken, beef e.t.c. fresh salads, pasta, even french fries.

Street food

Street food in the medinas is excellent, I'll tel you about the single restaurants I liked in the coming single cities pages.Should I mention mint tea? Anyway, it is really something unique, you find it everywhere. Moroccan cousine is very rich and for sure delicious, also very very tasty for their many spicies.Typical dishes that you can easily find everywhere are: cuscus(national dish), brochettes(grilled meat), La Tajine a very tasty mix of vegetables and meat.Harder to find but still excellent is pastilla a dish that mixes sweet and salad. They also have an excellent bread, I loved it usually try to eat all the bread you ask, bread has a religious value here, and, that bread is also delicious!!!

Stalls on the Djemma el Fna: Marrakech

by Elmsaafir

You're surrounded by people, tables, food, smoke from the cooking fires...It's an incredibly rich experience. The sounds, the smells, the sights... Tajine is a great standby, but my favorite was the Kefta.

Cous-cous

by mariquita

Food in Morocco was tasty, but unfortunately not very varied. During our four days there we got tired of eating cous-cous and tajin.Desserts were much too sweets for my taste. They are based on almonds and honey.

lois_lane's Restaurant Tip

by lois_lane

There was coffee, but as I was wary of the milk (and for me, I can't have coffee without milk), I stuck to the mint tea. It's black 'gunpowder' tea brewed up with a fistfull of fresh mint, and sugar to turn the liquid into a somewhat syrupy consistancy, served in a glass...lovely. What is best about mint tea is the conversation that is certain to accompany it.
