roadside vendors: Fossils

by Clairea

Between Fes and Marrakesh, in the heart of the Atlas Mountains, are roadside vendors that sell amazing fossils. They sell all different kinds of fossils and salt crystals from the nearby mountains. You can get giant specimens for $20-$30 or about 230 dirhams.

many: Le Souk

by meaganelizabeth

When you enter the souks for the first time, it is nice to have a guide. We had alot of time in Marrakech, so we were in no rush. As huge shoppers, it was very helpful to have a guide showing us around, and helping us out. You can get quite lost, and it is really a different world. A little scary at first. Well, a little scary all the time actually. There are motorbikes driving through small alleys at fast speeds, there are so many directions, you never know where you are, people screaming in arabic, donkey carts, etc. A coulorful brilliant place though! A big item shown around the souk are these leather slippers, of all colors. People here have them in their homes to wear as slippers and for the color and style, but I think they are incredibly uncomfortable, and wierd looking. They will seem ok in Morroco, but once you leave you will wonder what you were thinking. I bought huge...

Vilarmar

by JLBG

When you come from Rabat, drive across the Bou Regreg oued and take the road to Meknès, you will first pass the Dawliz complex (hotel, cinema), a children attraction park and a big one level building. It is the articraft center El-Oulja. On the building, you will read ''Vilarmar'' for ''village des arts marocains'' (village of moroccan arts). You should come to Vilarmar. It is worth the visit even if you are not going to buy anything. We are still in Salé, but very different from the medina. All handicrafts but mainly potteries. To know more, go to my Salé page

The Art of Haggling

by girladventure

Shopping in Morocco is a unique experience. No visit to Morocco would be complete without visiting a souk. The skill at which a shopkeeper can get you to not only pay several times what he would charge another Moroccan, but to get you to buy something you don't even want is amazing. All you have to do is show the slightest interest in something and the game begins. Ask the price and you've bought it already as far as the shopkeeper is concerned! They'll start at ten times a fair price if they think you'll pay it. They have nothing to lose except some time, which you will notice they never run short in supply in Morocco. REQUIRES PATIENCE!! Stick to what you feel is a fair price. Once you reach your top price keep repeating it, over and over. They'll counter with "what is your best price" over and over again too. Eventually they'll get the point. I think I've mastered that skills by now....

Shopping in Chaoun

by blint

All the shop that line the narrow streets of Chaoun are bristling with colour and sweet smells. Most shops sell things for tourists like hats, cushions, shawls, pipes, Arabictea pots and glasses, ‘traditional’ Arabic clothes, plates, lamps, marble chess sets, ornate tables, little wooden boxes, leather bags, flavoured tobacco, rugs and lots of other interesting looking things.Just take a look at the photo for an example of all the different kinds of things you’ll find there waiting for you. You’ll be spoilt for choice if you’re looking for gifts to take back to your friends and family. It's all so cheap. You'll be amazed.

Castelikho for internet!

by dr.firas

I should write this as a tip in my warning or danger tips, but really the internet in general in Morocco is so slow, I think in most of the cities and villages, you'll go nuts with that incredible turtle line, but in big cities like Marrakech and Casablanca it is ok!

Art of nature: Could you be more generous than nature!

by dr.firas

I don't wanna sound so romantic, but nothing truly is better than gathering some of the great seashells on African coasts, they are much bigger then ordinary ones you can found in Europe, with magical colors!I had some great ones and gave as a gift to my close people!Adding to normal souvenirs, this is the art of nature! It's for free, no one is more generous than the nature!
