Train Travel in Morocco

by Paul2001

Morocco has a good railway system that I ultimately enjoyed more than the bus. Train travel is only slightly more expensive than bus travel. I also found that times of the train schedules more convenient than the buses. The trains themselves are reasonably modern and clean. My only beef is that the locations where the trains travel are limited to the northern half of the country. There are no trains to Essaouira or Agadir.Timetables are usually available at the train stations or on the website listed below.

CTM bus - international quality bus travel

by angiebabe

There are 2 main bus companies that operate around Morocco at international level - CTM and Supratours - this mean buses that go from A to B with quality buses, routes with scheduled stops for pick up and drop at set locations between major destinations versus stopping for every Tom, Dick and Harry that the local buses do when they are of course providing a service for the local populations. Not all destinations would necessarily have to be with CTM or Supratours - Ive taken local buses for short routes for example from Tangier to Asilah, Tangier to Tetouan, Tetouan to Chefchaouen, and Chefchaouen to Fes and also Casablanca to Marrakech - and this can for sure be a great way to be amongst and see the locals and experience how they travel and what they travel on.....dodgey seats, curtains shut so your surrounding passengers can sleep but you cant see the landscapes as the tourist that you...

Using driver guides and rental car to see Morocco

by angiebabe

wow someone just rated my post here as helpful and i see these posts are from 4 years ago! well the original poster for this question never signed back in to see our answers since 26 july 4 years ago anyway - but again i even more so say that to get a rental car and then maximise your time by having a driver or guide with you is still an excellent way to go!! Mentally to doubt this is like saying either do your travels independently or whole hog with tourist company - try to see if you can stop anywhere the group or driver doesnt want to stop....and you can pay heaps for a tour company that usually use a 4x4 - at 1000 dirham a day divided by the number of people - and take you to more expensive places to sleep and eat - so add that to your daily cost whereas a rental car for 300-400 dirham and driver for 300 dirham and maybe 50 dirham for their food (£4!! quibbling over paying for their...

New freeway between Marrakech and Agadir

by angiebabe

The new freeway between Marrakech and Agadir, and actually now connecting all the way up to Casablanca, opened a few months ago and what an improvement!Though the road between Marrakech and Agadir, via Chichoua, is rather scenic, and as the only major access route the road itself has been well maintained but heavily traffficked with all matters of transportation trying to get between either major destiination.- Huge trucks, buses, grande taxis and car commuters all trying to hurry along and with only a few passing lanes and many winding and blind corners, inclines with blind crests theres a high risk of accidents along this route. The new freeway has sections of between 100-120km/h speed limits - with warnings of radar in place to catch speeders - and also warnings of flying birds that may fly suddenly out between areas of road cuttings. At the moment only one petrol station with rest...

Taxi from the airport

by bekahl

Taxi from the airport to the city centre costs around 150 DRH and to the Riad Dar Souihla it costs 220 DRH. We tried to haggle but all the taxi drivers were saying 300 DRH to the riad, we eventually got them down to 220 but it took a long time. Pretty hard to haggle when everyone says the same as they know you can't just go and get it cheaper with the next person.

Mohammed V International Airport

by traveldave

Casablanca's Mohammed V International Airport (CMN) is about 19 miles (31 kilometers) from the downtown area, so it is necessary to take a taxi into the city, unless transfers are included as part of a package tour. Airlines serving Mohammed V International Airport: Air Algerie, Air Arabia Maroc, Air France, Air Nostrum, Alitalia, Andalus Airlines, Atlas Blue, easyJet, Egyptair, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Hellenic Imperial Airways, Iberia, Libyan Airlines, Lufthansa German Airlines, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Saudi Arabian Airlines, TAP Air Portugal, Tunisair, Turkish Airlines, and Vueling Airlines.

CTM v the rest.

by TheLongTone

When travelling about Morocco by bus you'll generallly have the choice between CTM, which is a state run bus company and the multitude of private operators.CTM seems to be favoured by tourists but I realy don't understand why in particular. It is true that their services are generally a smidge faster and their buses a bit newer-looking. On the other hand, the CTM service will certainly offer you less choices of departure times and they have a prediliction for departures/arrivals at ridiculous times of the day. And CTM stays aloof from the hoi polloi, generally having an office/bus stop a long way from the town's bus station.

Cycling in Morocco.

by cachaseiro

The best way to get around is in my opinion by bicycle.Sure it's a little tough, but you get away from the tourist crowd and find out that moroccans are real nice people. In tourist places you tend to think that all moroccans wants to sell you hotel rooms, hash and useless junk and because of that it´s nice to get away from the tourist scene and experience a whole other Morocco than the "tourist Morocco".

ONCF Train around Morocco

by Deneen1

So easy to get around by ONCF, the train system. We purchased our tickets the day of travel, and since we were not travelling at a peak time, it was no problem. You can check the timetable online, or get a small pocket schedule at the station. We did have one problem, the train from Rabat to Meknes broke down and was 4 hours late, but this is not usual, it was an exception. If you have a timetable, such as we had to leave in the wee hours on Saturday morning from Marrakech, we came back on Thursday so we would be in Marrakech for sure by Friday evening.

Transport in Morocco

by mar-kar

Mike,Trains are great in Morocco. Be aware that you will be there during the hottest period. Act like a native and go slowly. In addition to traing, look into the bus system also run by the train company - SupraTours. BIG comfortable airconditioned busses-http://www.supratours.ma/.Also consider "Grande Taxis". These are usually mercedes that go between cities. Meet at their location in a city and find one going to your destination. As soon as it is full, the car departs. Great way to travel, inexpensive, and a good way to meet people. We have used these many times without problems or regrets.Don't make it a rush tour. Stay in one or two places (Fes & Marrakech) for a few days to get the flavor of the old cities. Stay in a hotel (Riad) in the medina (old walled city) and get lost in the markets. Smell the aromas, hear the sounds, watch the people. You will learn much more. One last bit of...
