Getting There by Sea (CEUTA)

by blint

Getting to Morocco from Spain is very easy. You can but tickets for a ferry from Algeciras (a rather ugly port town) or just about any town in the area. You can go to Tangiers or the Spanish colony of Ceuta in Africa. After hearing how hectic Tangiers is we opted to go to Ceuta and cross the border to Morocco from there. We had no trouble and it was very easy to do. Once across the border we walked 4km to a small town called something like Fli dek (I don't know how to write it). If you don't want to walk you can get a taxi. From there we got a bus to Tetouan then on to Chaoun. The second time i went I braved Tangiers and it wasn't hectic at all you don't go near the medinaIf you want to go from Algeciras to Tangiers there are about 9 crossings a day. The journey lasts about 2.5 hours. From Algeciras to Ceuta there are more crossings (about 12) per day and the journey only takes 1.5 hours...

Morocco to Senegal

by cabeyp

Overland is cheaper of course.Heading down to Senegal would be along the Atlantic route. A road easily doable. You will first head through Morocco, down Agadir, Nouakchott, Nouhadibhou (through Western Sahara into Mauritania) The road has now been completed so you do not need to drive on sand as we needed to do a few years back. You will be able to get a bus all the way to Dakhla. There you will need to arrange transport. Not sure how you would cross from Mauritania to Senegal by public transport. We drove at the time (you can see our route http://www.africa.englishouse.de/html/the_route.htmland adventures + photos herehttp://www.africa.englishouse.de/html/on_the_road.html)Let me know if you have more questions

Train from Casablanca Airport to Marrakech

by pjmrio

From Casablanca's Mohammed V airport, you will need to take the turquoise-blue Baydaoui shuttle train to Casablanca Voyageurs station in the city centre (about 35 minutes journey time), where you can pick up the main line service to Marrakech. If you don't manage to buy the ticket to Marrakech in advance, you can purchase it on the train from the conductor for an additional surcharge. You can check schedules and fares at the website below.

Ferry to Tarfayah and Buses to Agadir/Marrakech

by thines310

If you are traveling to the Canary Islands, there is a ferry company, Armas, that has a trip Thursdays and Mondays from Puerto del Rosario, Fuerteventura to Tarfayah. The trip takes about 5 hours and is a fairly new line that's only been operating for the past couple of months. It costs around 43 euro one way, and over 100 euro if you are taking a car. Tarfayah has only 1 paved road and no hotels to speak of, but there is a travel agency where you can buy a bus ticket from there to Agadir for only 19 euro. The trip takes about 10 hours and if you go through the night be prepared to have your passport taken and copied at every police checkpoint on the trip. In Agadir as long as you stay a little ways away from the beach there are very cheap hotels for around 40 dirham a night and also restaurants with complete meals for 35 dirham. The people there are extremely friendly and hospitable and...

Getting to Morocco from Singapore

by xuessium

There are no direct flights from Singapore since Singapore Airlines does not serve Morocco and Royal Air Maroc does not fly into Singapore. A transit through the middle east is the only option.Generally, most flights fly into Casablanca so this is usually the first city of call. The choices of airlines is more or less confined to Emirates and Qatar Airways (though I think Turkish Airlines might be a viable third option). This of course, meant a transit through Dubai or Doha (or Istanbul) and total travelling time could be up to 16 hours+. I chose to fly with Emirates, so that I can do a stopover in Dubai.

TAXI

by gugi66

BEWARE OF THE TAXI DRIVERS. THEY WILL SCREW YOU OVER AND OVER AGAIN, AND THEY DRIVE LIKE CRAZY. SHOW THE TAXI DRIVER ON A MAP WERE YOU WANT TO GO OR HE WILL TAKE YOU SOME OTER PLACE AND SAY "THIS IS WERE YOU WANT,YES YES" IF HE SAYS: MY FRIEND OWN A REAL MAROCAN STORE I´LL TAKE YOU THERE. JUST SAY NO OR GET OUT OF THE TAXI, HE WILL TAKE YOU OUTSIDE THE TOWN TO A SMALL SHOP.

Buses

by blint

The buses are VERY cheap, very slow, very dirty, very bumpy and very old.To go from Tanger to chaouen it costs 2,70 on Ideal buses, which despite the name are far from ideal (the worst and cheapest I think). From Al hociema to Tanger is costs 9 euros for a nine hour bus ride though if you went by car it would only take you 5 hours. That's the one good thing about the buses apart from the price; they don't speed (hehe), they can't; due to the terrible bendy roads with sharp rises and falls and the terrible condition of the buses. I felt lucky to be alive after going through the Rif mountains. I survived as the driver must know the route like the back of his hand and the bus didn't give out on us.They say the best company is CTM which are better compared to most, though I wouldn't say they were great, but even if they were, due to the roads tavelling by bus can never be described as...

Car Hire in Morocco

by barryg23

On our second trip to Morocco we hired a car in Fes and drove it around the country for 9 days before returning it to Marrakech. Having a car in Morocco can be a huge advantage as the public transport system is limited, especially outside the main population areas. In some parts of rural Morocco, public transport is unreliable or even non-existent. We were able to visit many places we would not otherwise have seen at our own convenience. However, there are a few things you should be aware of when you hire a car in Morocco: First, car hire rates vary widely and even the lowest rates can be quite expensive. We were looking to hire a car - the cheapest car possible - for 9 days and to return it to Marrakech. We were quoted over 6000Dh by Hertz and 5800Dh by Avis before getting a much better, but still expensive offer of 4050Dh from Europcar. We eventually bargained them down to 4293 Dh...

Trains

by DurhamTom

The Moroccan railway network is the best way to travel round the country. Although the trains aren't that regular they are very punctual, clean, air-conditioned and the stations very tidy. To be honest it puts British trains to shame! Each station we passed was spotless with gardens and all have kiosks and English/French speaking staff. Its also very cheap and worthwhile the upgrade to first class, larger seats and more space especially if you are travelling a long distance. Marrakech to Fes is 7 hours, take the 7am train either way getting in early afternoon leaving lots of time to rest/shop/drink tea! Marrakech to Casablanca 3 hours and Rabat a further hour. You see the countryside change too from the deserts around Marrakech to travelling along the coast to Rabat and then into the green rolling hills around Meknes and Fes.Its also a good way to meet travellers and locals alike and far...

Flights from Europe

by barryg23

In recent years, it has become much easier to get to Morocco cheaply. Back in 2005, when we first visited, the only low cost carrier flying to Morocco was Atlas-Blue, a subsidiary or Royal Air Morocco. We wanted to start that trip in the north of the country and the cheapest way to do it was to fly to Gibraltar and cross on the ferry. When we next returned in 2007, we had a better choice among Ryanair, Easyjet, Atlas Blue and traditional carriers like BA and Royal Air Maroc. It's not just Britain that has benefited from these cheap flights. Atlas Blue flies from many locations in France while Ryanair also has a flight from Germany. Also, some Spanish people we met around Toubkal told us of a cheap flight between Madrid and Marrakech. As we had so much choice with flight we were able to tailor a good itinerary. We flew into Fes with Ryanair and out from Marrakech with Easyjet 17 days...
