Favorite thing: King Hassan II wanted that his kingdom's main city had a monument important enough. Many resources has been used to build this enormous buildings and many many money spent, so money that some common people would have rathered were used to fight unemployment troubles for example.

Favorite thing: Mosque Hassan II the biggest Mosque in the Magreb and the second religious buildings in the world, second only to Mecca....at least this is what most guides write..but here comes the correction of my dear friend marimar_72"corra,
with all due respect, hassan II mosque is NOT the 2nd religious mosque in the
world for muslims..even if the morrocan say that;-),our mosques rating goes like
this
1-is makkah`s mosque.
2-is the prophet mohammad`s mosque in Madina(saudi arabia)
3-is the al-aqusa mosque in Jerusalem.
then all mosques in the world follow in NO order;-)
surley their Hassan in no more important than prophet mohammad..

Favorite thing: The Hasan II Mosque (opened in 1993) which is situated on the Atlantic Coast, northwest of medina is absolutely a must see in Casablanca. It's said that it is the biggest mosque in the world.
No doubts it has the tallest minaret in the world, with its 210 metres (689 ft). Hmm... it's like almost 70 storey skyscraper.
Unfortunately it was impossible to go to the top of the minaret :-( and as I know there was not any restaurant with panoramic views on the top :-).
Fondest memory: Hassan II mosque.

Fondest memory: Probably you can find in Casablanca the largest mosque outside Saoudi Arabia. The Hassan II Mosque is a stunning piece of architecture and craftsmanship, situated right on the Atlantic ocean. Its location is exceptional: in forward edge of sea
It's also your only chance to see a mosque in Morocco from the inside.
It was paid by the Moroccan workers. Theoretically they did not have to pay but actually they had to pay it (the shade of Hassan II was always present).
There are guided tours of the mosque for non-muslims at 9 AM, 10 AM, 11 AM and 2 PM (2:30 PM in summer). The afternoon tour is not available on Fridays, as the main weekly religious service takes place at that time. Tours cost 100 dirham or 50 dirham if you show your student card. (if you have it, don't forget it)

Favorite thing: ...and i just love how the doors were done, and the space left open above them... There are a lot of details, and the place is very clean..
Here, you can compare the size of the people against the size of the door -- now you can imagine the size of the minaret!!!

Favorite thing: There were a lot of people here, i am guessing they were going in to pray, coming out or just relaxing and socializing outside... the place is beautiful, astonishing really. You can be amazed at what mankind can build...
There were lots of families, groups of people just chatting, kids playing... it was cool to just people-watch.. =)
In this photo, you can compare the size of the people against the door... so big, eh?

Favorite thing: I tried to go inside the mosque, but got barred at the door... not sure as to why, if it is because I'm a woman or a foreigner... In any case, if you do make it in, you must take off your sandals... here is a picture i took from the door (eheheheh)... the guard there was very serious about not letting me in... =(

Favorite thing: The most important sight of Casablanca is undoubtly the Hassan II Mosque which is world's largest mosque. It's located on the shoreline and building was finished in the early 90's. At night the mosque is beautifully lit.

Favorite thing: Despite modifications throughout the centuries, the basic structure of mosques remain the same. There is always a space reserved for ablutions (the purification room), a hall for prayer, a niche known as the Mihrab showing the direction of Mecca and a minaret from which the muezzin calls the faithful to prayer.
