If you are a tourist, they will seek you out, follow you and try to be your guide or cut you a deal. I never knew I had so many friends!
The medina is worth an afternoon of wandering if you can handle tight spaces, crowds and saying "no" a lot.
Unique Suggestions: Have fun looking and browsing, but beware and try not to respond to any offers. If you ever say anything, or sometimes even make eye contact, the "guide" will follow you relentlessly.
The Rabat Medina is very clean and easy compared to this one. The Fez and Marrakesh ones are more interesting, but touristy.
Fun Alternatives: Shop in Habous. Or try another Medina in another city for the Median experience (it is worth it!)

Well, the only thing I can think of is - please do REMEMBER to bargain, bargain, BARGAIN before you buy ANYTHING... especially in the Souk. DO NOT be afraid to slash the price by more than 50% because these shop vendors would have already jet up the prices of your favorite souvenir, Moroccan rug etc by more than 50%. :-)
And don't worry... they won't run after you with a chain saw. Hey, it's the Moroccan way of life to BARGAIN. You'd be safe. Trust me.
