    Compass

Miscellaneous: I think that the best way to appreciate Fes El Bali is to simply dive into it. You'll get lost. And due to the narrowness of the streets and the height of the buildings, the position of the sun will generally not be readily perceptible. Take a compass, & you can at least keep heading in more or less the right direction....you'll get out eventually!

Capris, T-Shirts and Locks - Packing Guide to Fes

by vjeranadaljubav Written Oct 5, 2004

Luggage and bags: For walking around, have a bag or a backpack that you can lock with a small combination lock, to prevent people from reaching into your bag and stealing stuff.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: If you are a blonde, give up. You won't pass as Moroccan, so no amount of long clothes will help to protect you against annoying men. I got by wearing capri pants and skirts that ended below the knee, along with loose T-shirts. It's modest enough, and you are not cooking in your clothes. If you are planning to stay for a while, you can get a jellabah.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: You can get almost everything you need in a large supermarket.

Photo Equipment: Batteries for your camera are a must, because you cannot be sure they have them there. They do sell them in stores, but they don't sell all models.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: You should pack your swimming suit - there are several pools mainly frequented by Westerners or young Moroccans where you can swim, and two towns with thermal springs are nearby.

    Pack light but comfy!

by Zlur Written Dec 13, 2006

Luggage and bags: Backpacks definately to travel & light haversack for during the day.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: As Fes is one of the oldest cities in Morocco, you are expected to respect their religion and wear clothing that covers your shoulders and legs (especially women). It can get pretty hot walking around the souks all day long as most of them are closed in, so it's best if you wear light layers. With regards to shoes - make sure they are comfortable since walking is your only way of getting around the old city.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: There was a pharmacy next to our hotel but it never seemed to be open whenever we passed by?! So try and come prepared.

Photo Equipment: There are no westernised shops as such in the old city so if you would need any photography equipment or toiletries it's best to stock up from home or go to the new town (Fes el Djedid) and try your luck there.
