Imlil - Walk Away!

Above Aremdt

If you love the mountains, panoramic views and unspoilt village communities get away from Imlil by hiring a guide to take you into the neighbouring valleys. The road improvments are making Imlil easily accessible now, so to experience the true Berber culture you need to walk into the unspoilt areas. Rather than take a chance on who might approach you on arrival in Imlil the sensible way is to use local guides like ImlilTrek. This is a tried, tested and trusted organisation with the experience, language skills and local knowledge that will make your visit so much more enjoyable.

Buy a goat and go to the shrine of Shamharush...

They sell chickens, goats, sheep - through the butcher in town. You can buy one and have it brought to the shrine of Shamharush, killed and prepared for you. The goat can set you back about 70 bucks or around 750 DH, depending on his size. If that seems expensive remember you are getting the whole animal, not a plate. Once at the shrine, The custom is to allow a portion of the sacrifice to go to the Maqadam of the shrine or you could give him about 200dh for a bigger animal and maybe 50 for a chicken.

For the spiritual, a way to connect to the mountain spirit in the tradition of the locals.

For the hungry - dude, it's fresh chicken. I'm coming from New Orleans - so, you know I'm all over that!
