My wife and our kids really enjoyed our desert trek which we booked through Taxi In Marrakesh. It was a big step for us to book through a non european agency, but we took the leap and didnt regret it for a second. firstname.lastname@example.org
As you may perhaps already know, many taxi drivers in Marrakesh have a very low level of ethics, they will try to charge the maximum they can extort from you.
Many tourist are charged 150DH or 50 DH per person from the airport to the city center, in reality this course doesn't cost more than 20 DH (2 euros) whether you are alone or with up to 3 people!
To pay this low fare you just have to walk 5 minutes to reach the main boulevard just outside the airport as shown in the picture.
Outside the airport area, taxis must use the counter and cannot charge high fixed fares, so insist on the driver to use it !
for you way back to the airport tell him to use the counter and that you want to go to Mhamid (the neighborhood close to the airport), once you are close to the airport ask him to drop you close to its entrance without entering the parking from there you will have to walk 5 minutes but you will pay just 20 dh instead of 50dh or more!
I found taximarrakech through reading some reviews about the company online. I've emailed the compay to ask for prices and they got back to me straight away. We nagotiated a return price from the airport to city centre. The price was for the car, not per person, therefore much cheaper than most of other companies or e.g. booking it through our hotel.
As soon as we got out the airport, the driver was waiting for us and he was also in time for our return. Everything was very easy and straight forward, worthwhile the money. Thank you.
Taxi prices are for the whole car, not per person. Expect to negociate the price with the driver, from the airport 80 to 100 dirhams is the norm. Away from the airport taxi's are much cheaper. It can be cheaper to hail a cab in the street than outside your hotel. Petite taxi's are found everywhere, insist the driver uses the meter if not agree a price before setting off.
visiting marrakesh was a dream come true,we spent a stunning week with friends, and thanks to "taxiamarrakech" we could get everywhere in and around marrakesh.
I think the best thing about this company is the friendliness of the staff! Thanks to the team at Taxi in Marrakech for the very enjoyable journey to Essaouira, and the great food you provided us with...
one word...BRILLIANT !
My family and I just returned from a mini-holiday in Marrakech. Hachim met us at the airport. It was perfect! We didn't have to negotiate with any of the taxi drivers like we heard many others doing. Hachim was on time and waiting with a sign. He was patient while we got money from the ATM and then took us straight to our hotel while pointing out some sights along the way. The next day Radwan picked us up at the scheduled time and drove us around Marrakech for a 1/2 day tour. He dropped us at the entrance to the sights and waited while we went inside. We could take as much or as little time as we wanted. Hachim took us back to the airport on the last day; again he was right on time and got us to the airport without any problems. Prices were very reasonable. Contact email@example.com
Merci to Adil, the Taxi in Marrakesh agent whom we consulted with to book our excursion to Essaouira. The tour itself was great. The guide showed us some incredible sites and views, and gave us good tips about where to eat and what to see, as we would be doing our own thing later in the evening. Really really good service.( contact: firstname.lastname@example.org )
I would just like to say a big warm thank you to the team from Taxi In Marrakesh for organisimg a brilliant tour for my mother and I for her birthday. She enjoyed every moment of our tour to the ourika waterfalls.
I recently went on holidays with my family to Marrakesh, and as I was searching for information about transportation, I found a company called Taxi In Marrakesh. We booked a tour to the desert through them, and they were really supportive and spoke English well. The tour itself was perfect! and the price was reasonable too.
Following good reports on RADWAN (contact @excursions-marrakech.com) phone 0021 12661438007 we phoned him to arrange pick up for 6 from the airport. We were not disappointed and his 7 seater car was perfect and we booked him and his cousin Alli for a trip for 8 of us to the Atlas mountains during our stay and again for return to the airport. Both men were gentlemen and informative and deserve to do well and be supported. Both speak several languages well which we found most helpful.
Once again thanks to Radwan (email@example.com) for being so efficient with airport transfers and also for a wonderful day in the Atlas mountains. Radwan is smart, friendly and lots of fun, and his 7 seater vehicle well maintained. He is also a brilliant driver in the very difficult and busy city conditions. We would certainly recommend contacting him for any trips you need to do by taxi, whether it be a sightseeing trip, airport transfers or simply to take you to a restaurant for dinner and return you back to your accommodation again.
Thanks to Chilledascanbe we used www.excursiones-marrakesh.com last week and had a great time. Radwan was waiting at the airport to take us to the hotel and gave us good advice about using other forms of transport around the town.
We arranged a full day out with him into the Atlas Mountains and a half day sight-seeing around the city. He couldn't have been more helpful. He stopped whenever we wanted a photo, drink walk and even arranged at short notice, lunch in a genuine Berber home. (Pay extra for this).
The half day tour (this time with his cousin Ali) took us to six sites in the city and he was always in sight as we came out ready to move on.
Finally he was there for our transfer back to the airport. He took us to our boarding desk before leaving, where he wished us well.
Both of the men were great company and had much knowledge of Marrakesh and its surroundings. I would reccommend their services anytime.
Getting around Marrakech by taxi is quick and easy and cheap - in Morocco called petit taxi - in Marrakech theyre small beigey coloured (beaten up a bit usually!) car - they really are cheap - 15 dirham or 20 at the most to get out to Marjane for example which is quite a long trip - usually 15 for anywhere around the city and cheaper if you are sharing as often if theres room and someone going your way the driver might let someone else jump in - usually asking you quickly first if its not okay.
Charges are a little more at night ie more so 20 and even 30 to come back from Marjane than 15 for general trips to places.
The story changes though if its getting from the airport though - then the rip off the tourist stuff sets in - 150 dirham they usually ask without blinking knowing that first time visitors will not question this - Ive seen the signs that said taxis should be 55 dirham into the city centre but that was while the new airport while still getting its finishing touches and no new sign has appeared - and now its even more difficult unless youre a local or speaking arabic to do much about it - as they will just tell you to take the bus if youre not happy about it!
Grande taxis are big 6 seater diesel mercede cars which are usually used for long distance travel between towns and cities - and are usually based at their 'Grand taxi station' near the main bus station in the city - but are used from the airport for groups - taking up to 6 passengers - and of course travellers with luggage that mightnt fit in a tiny petit taxi. Their asking price is not much different getting from the airport as the rip off little ones. but try and haggle anyway. Really the price shouldnt be more than 70-100 dirham.
Myself and 3 others travelled to Marrakech in early April this year (2011). We were greeted and collected by Radwan, a polite, smart and helpful gentleman with a very nice air-conditioned 7 seater that comfortably took us and our suitcases to our hotel some 8km away. His email is firstname.lastname@example.org. As we were self catering, we needed to get to the Supermarket. He took us there, waited for an hour whilst we shopped, then took us to the cashpoint some distance away and then took us back to our apartment via a route that showed us a very nice area called Hivernage which we wouldn't otherwise have known to visit. He didn't have to do that and only charged us 10 euros (equivalent) for the entire trip. I cannot recommend him more highly. He was an absolute godsend. Totally reliable and very reasonable. He also did excursions into the mountains. We didn't take one, but we recommended him to someone else and they said he was excellent. Again his email is email@example.com.
We were lucky one night, early in our holiday to meet Mohamed. Mohamed, like the culture of all taxi drivers in Marocco, expects to barter. But after that, during our first trip from the busy 'French' area one night to the house, he asked if we wanted to visit the atlas mountains. This is a typical request from many taxi drivers. We agreed on 500MD for a day trip. A fantastic day in a Grande taxi (there were 4 of us) and our new found friend spoke English, was helpful, stopped for photographs without even asking, stopped at a pottery, an Argon oil maker, and showed us us the various vantage points with a smile.
As he said himself 'I am the only one legged taxi driver in Marrakesh'. With the adapted car, he was THE SAFEST TAXI DRIVER IN MARRAKESH. The driving leaves a lot to be desired, but we always felt safe with Mohamed at the wheel.
This man has been driving these crazy roads for 20 years and nothing seems to phase him. What really amazed us was that one night he invited us to his house for a meal, and that was when we had a real taste of Marrakesh. A genuine local inviting us to his home. How often does a taxi driver ring YOU when you are back in the UK to ask if you are ok?
If anyone is going to Marrakesh and they genuinely want Mohamed's mobile number, email me, and I will pass it on to you. All I would ask is that you pay him fairly.
