The most common taxi in Meknes is the small fiat or Peugeot Petit Taxi. They are blue and relatively cheap. Make sure they use their meter. The bigger taxi is the Grand Taxi which will also go further afield such as Volubilis and Moulay Idriss Zerhoun whereas the Petit taxi is just around the city.
If you are driving to Meknes you can travel the main highway between Rabat and Fes. There are regional roads you can take if you are travelling from Marrakech. Distance from Rabat is 136 kms (85miles), from Tangier 267kms (166 miles) and from Marrakech 476kms (296 miles).
The nearest airport to Meknes is Fez – Saiss International Airport. Airlines such as Ryanairk, Royal Air Maroc, British Airways and GB Airlines all fly to Fez. From the airport you can take a bus or a taxi to Meknes.
There are two train stations in Meknes. One east of the city and a smaller one (El-Emir Abdelkader) right in the centre of Ville nouvelle. Trains run from Marrakech, Fes and Tangier by the Moroccan National Office for Railways.
The CTM bus company operate buses to Meknes. Their bus station is located east of the new town (Ville Nouvelle) on Ave des Fes/Ave des Forces Royales . Buses arrive here from all the major cities in Morocco.
The taxi stand is in the Ville Nouvelle. Grand taxi which can take up to 6 people charges DH10 for a 30 min journey to Moulay Idriss, where you can get to Volubilis. See other travel pages for these places.
