At different places in the souk are nicely decorated fountains. These one, in Rue des Consuls is one of the best. They are designed for drinking needs but lost are not working. Instead, you will see people with a large hat garnished with bells that sell a cup of water to those thirsty. They ask for payment for every photo. I did not take any.

Near the end of Souika Street, you will find on your right the Consuls's street, with higher houses and an iron ceiling high over the shops.
The style of the shops is different and though locals come here to buy clothes or artifacts, this is the part that most tourists visit.
If, instead of turning right to walk into the rue des Consuls, you walk ahead, you will arrive in a very different place. Before, you get there, look at my ''out of the beaten path'' tip for warning.

Shops in the souk are always very small, often less than 15 square meters. Shoes are everywhere, hang to the walls from soil to ceiling and there is only a very small space remaining for the shop keeper ! There is no door but a board that supports more shoes. To go out, the shopkeeper has to crawl underneath !

If we go back along Souika road and find again Mohamed V avenue, where we began our wandering, we will find the covered market.

The entrance is on the left of the photo. In the early morning, when this photo was taken, it is very calm, but as soon as the covered market is open, it will become very busy and I would have found difficult to take a picture.

The butcher gets delivered a whole beef. As no car can come here, it is brought on a small cart and weighted with a Roman brass scale hung in front of the shop.
He was OK for the photo, but without him and I had to hurry up because he would not leave the carcass hung to the scale for long !

This iron cover is very aerial and does seem so light ! Morocco has very clever blacksmiths but they are most of the time on the outskirts of cities as their job is noisy. They do ornamented iron doors and any kind of ornamented iron works. Beautiful, but a bit heavy to bring home !

At the far end of the Kasbah - just follow the main street to its eventual end - is the Plateforme du Semaphore, a large viewing area with a vista across the bay to Sale. This space seemed popular with courting couples, maybe down here to take advantage of the views and perhaps enjoy a romantic sunset.

The bay itself isn't one of the most dramatic spots of scenery that I've seen, but on a sunny day it would be a nice spot to hang out for a while to work out your next spot on the tourist trail. And the views are free...

Maybe not on a rainy late afternoon in November though, as you can tell in the pic!

If you enlarge the picture, you will see that the girl has its price stuck on her forehead and that she is tied up to the wall by the neck !
The forehead is of course the easiest place to stick a label with the price, and, tied up like that, it is sure that she will not escape.

Strawberries, meddlars, apricots, apple, everything is gully ripe and very tasty. The apricots are very special, very pale looking, with a special taste. The good thing with fruits is that even if you are stuck in a hotel, you can buy and taste them ! I recommend the apricots !

Honeydew melons, avocados, oranges, everything is locally grown and full of juice and sugar ! Oranges and tomatoes are widely exported towards Europe but other fruits, such as avocados or melons, that could be, remain on the local market and are not or little exported.
