"Catembe beach" (or "Praia Catembe" in Portuguese) is located on the other side of the bay from Maputo city. The ferry from the city takes 10 minutes and cost 30 Metacais (1 USD). The other option is to drive around the bay, but it takes more than an hour.
Catembe beach is long and wide, with sand dunes in the back. The beach is of course the main attraction in the sleepy village. Expect to be looked at by the locals if you are white. They are not used to see foreigners.
The village of Catembe is close to the beach, and has several small cafes. All the streets are without asphalt paving. The view to Maputo city is great from the beach.
