Mozambique has an active football environment, like many other African countries. Football is played in the parks and footballfields.
The big football arena in the Baixa is only for the organized football team. But there are other parks where you can play.

A lot of young people play football (soccer) on the beach in Maputo. The players are mostly unorganized, since membership in organized football cost money. But they are skilful and the level is quite high.
Helpfulness
Here the expatriate community meets to laze in the sun or make use of the pool. It is a great place to meet some of the local residents. Also possible here is to charter a boat to travel to the islands in the Bay of Maputo. The club charges an entrance fee that was around 5 USD when I visited last.
