From Maputo to Ponta-do-Ouro: Road Conditions (I)

In August-2006 a couple of friends and I went to Ponta do Ouro, the southernmost tip of Mozambique.My suggestion for anyone riding this road is to drive on a 4WD car. Otherwise one might not be able to complete the 90km (=approx. 56 miles) road that links Maputo to Ponta do Ouro.If I'm not mistaken, the first third of the road (departing from Maputo) is paved but with plenty of holes along the way. Then, one will find a non-paved road and later (before one reachs Ponta do Ouro), when one think it can not get any worse, it does !!!

It rained very hard in the afternoon of the day we were suppose to return to Maputo. So, my friends & I decided to postpone our departure (to Maputo) for the following day.We were afraid that due to the road conditions we were risking to spend the whole night inside the car somewhere between Ponta do Ouro and Maputo.The pictures on this Tip show how the road's condition was (in August-2006) after a heavy rain in Ponta do Ouro.
