Beach Restaurant

by junecorlett

I dont even remember the name of this restaurant...they are dotted along the coast, many of them. They are all good and inexpensive. Seafood platter, with lots of lemon butter, garlic and MILD peri-peri.

Best sea food? Here it is

by needanswer

It is called Water front and you know why? Becuse it is in front of the water. With a swimming pool, and jaz group it is really very attracting. Close to VIP Hotel. It is amazing you will agree with me. Fresh Seafood, Fresh Seafood, Fresh Seafood! You just ask for a mix seafood and they brign a big oval dish with all the animals that swim in the sea. Of course cooked! Enjoy!

Sagres: Prawns, calamari fresh from the sea

by cleocat

I had so much calamari here that I will be able to go without it for a while. They have calamari as a starter, with fish, without fish whatever your heart desires.I found this restaurant much cheaper than the one at the hotel and the servings are enormous. After our first meal there I chose my meals from the starter menu. My children don't eat rice. So with their rice and the starter calamari I had a great meal. The rice is very tasty. It is made with veggies and some garlic. The price for a starter calamari is 75 000 meticais. R25 or $5. The calalmari and fish (this is enough for 2)is 160 000 , R53 or $8.My husband had prawn curry once and it was very tasty and well-priced.This restaurant is right next to the hotel with a nice seaview. It is quite popular with the locals and it filled up quickly after 19:00. The second time we went there all the waiters were running to hand us menus and...

Restaurant at the Holiday Inn: What a choice!!!

by cleocat

I find hotel restaurants always a bit overpriced. This one follows the trend but the food is great.Breakfast includes everything you can think about. There are lots of fruit and even veggies if you don't want to give in to the pancakes, croissants, cream cakes, sausages and bacon. Dinner can be from the buffet or the menu.I found the salad (from the buffet) a bit expensive at $7.50. The complete buffet is $18 but too much for me.My husband and Rian found this a good option. They have no problem when it comes to food.I must say the salads are great. It included a lot of fish dishes. I have one difficult child when it comes to eating and seeing there were no pizzas and hamburgers on the menu he ended up with a plate of chips most of the time. The menu is not very child-friendly and if you have little ones it might be a problem finding something for them. I loved the salads. I had some new...

Walk around!!

by jenniferhen

No Lonely PLanet guiding me here, we never take guides advice for food. We walk around until we smell something good and go for it. It is a great way to find some hidden treasures and only once in awhile are we disappointed. It has always worked for us in the past and what a way to really experience the local food.

favourite eateries - are they still around ?

by kenHuocj

Costa da Sol on the beach at the northern end of the City is still thriving:Coimbra was for Galinha Peri peri ;Hong Kong opposite the Market for fine cantonese meals;Laurentina Beer Hall for liver and giblet snacks accompanied by Black beer:Bambi for teas and late night snacks;Golden Dragon for chinese steaks and seafoods;what are the new In-Eateries ??

Fish Shop: Smells like Tuna

by LAOWAI

The great thing about Nhamtanda is that they sell fish late at night. And they're so trustworthy in the village that they'll even let a guy like me- who they've never met- have a part time job. Lord Jim was gracious enough to take my photo. Most royalty don't even know how to hold a camera, but in this case Lord Jim did a fine job. Thanks my Lord.

Outdoor stalls: Forgot the Salt?

by LAOWAI

If Lord Jim has forgotten something, or just wants to buy a treat for the girls who live 3 to a mud hut and study in his classes, Lord Jim can pop into a local convenience store day or night, shoot the breeze with the guys and get cookies, salt, washing detergent, you name it.

Lord Jim has it tough.

by LAOWAI

Lord Jim seems to even have it rough as far as food goes. He eats rice and vegetables, maybe chicken or tiny dried fish - everyday he's in Nhamatanda.Granted, he pays one of his students a paltry (but a lot in Nhamatanda terms) $3 per week to get the food, cook it, keep his Colas cold, bring him his water, clean his room, be at his beckon call. But Kid loves Lord Jim and stays at Lord Jim's spacious pad 3 days a week while Lord Jim goes off to the big city its gracious nightlife, beaches and camping, among other delicacies. All of Lord Jim's meals are hand made and cooked over a wood fire. Lord Jim loves Coke. He drinks a couple a day. And at 20 cents each, he can afford to. His cokes are kept in the neighbors refrigerator- I don't know how they do it, but they have a refrigerator.

by Nasha_G

Piri-Piri is definetly the most famous restaurant in Maputo. It is very old (comes from the portuguese era)and not expensive for a foreign person. This is a very pleasant and coloured restaurant (the chairs and tables have different colours reminding the 60s). In the wall you can admire some handmade pictures of places of Maputo before the independence. If you prefer you can always have your meal outside, under the beautiful acacia trees. Here you can find grilled chicken with piri-piri (spicy chicken)and grilled mozambican shrimps. I surely advice you to try this and to taste the national beers (Laurentina, Manica and 2M).
