Gili_S Says:  While hanging around here in the park, watch out also for the small animals, sometimes they are not that easy to spot as they have perfect camouflage. In this case, few small lizards.

Animal watch: Gnu

Gili_S Says:  The Daan Viljoen Game Park is good for walking and no needed to use the car while hanging around here, I guess it is also rather safe. In this case I spotted not very far from us this Gnu.

Animal watch: Antelopes, Daan Viljoen Game Park

Gili_S Says:  That was my first day in Namibia here and of course I went all the way to Africa to watch wild animals, this Daan Viljoen Game Park was a good start before getting into the real wild life of the more famous parks later. Anyway, here I could spot some common antelopes as in...

Daan Viljoen Hiking Trail

Daan Viljoen Hiking Trail, Daan Viljoen Game Park

nora_south_africa Says:  The game park excludes potentially dangerous game species such as elephant, buffalo and the large cats, which means that visitors can safely explore the park on foot. Somewhere in the park there was a restaurant but as this was the first day in Namibia, that was not very tempting and we already did some shopping earlier for fresh food back in the supermarket in Windhoek. As you can see in the image here, you can select a spot with your car where you can used the camp grill facility to cook whatever is in your menu. You will need your own wood to start the fire.

Early morning in Dan Viljoen

We got our rental car in Windhoek and after getting our supply we drove straight here for the park. That is of course the easiest way to get here, I am not sure if there is any bus line to take you here :)))
It is about one hour drive from Windhoek, take road C28.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Good walking shoes for comfortable walking around here. Light safari cloths recommended for better camouflage, walking around you do not want to scare the animals. Be aware that bright colours might attract insects.
If you visit here during winter months (June-August) warm cloths is a MUST.
It can get very cold here at night.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Warm sleeping bags in the winter as it will be cold at night.

Favorite thing: The Dan Viljoen National Park is one of the smallest in Namibia, but it is unique for the area because of its small lake in the middle. It is perfect place for short walks and trekking. The landscape is just amazing and it is very close to Windhoek so you can visit this place even if you have only one day.
***** Latest I heard this park is temporary closed for changes. Verify in advance before you plan visiting here.
