 | Etosha National Park Things To Do | Tips 41 - 50 of 85 | | Popular Things To Do | Other Things To Do Tips | All Tips (85) These are rather ungainly animals, especially because of their face and out-of-proportion front side of the body. They are the true African nomads going through long treks in search of new pastures. As I mentioned, they are often seen in the company of Zebras. And they are also noisy, frequently making grunting sounds. When the males fight, they do so on their knees, which is kind of funny, especially when they take a break to graze in the middle of the fight. What I like about them is the disciplined way in which they trek - in an orderly single file ... better than people in queues at the supermarket or bank :-) Where to find them Almost everywhere where there is open plains and savannah habitat. Interesting Fact: Once the population of Southern Africanˇ¦s wildebeests was comparable to those found in East Africa, and they used to do great migrations like the ones witnessed in the Serengeti and Masai Mara today. These cute dog-like creatures are quite common in Etosha, and can be seen most readily at dawn and dusk. They are also ‘pests’ of the restcamps – rummaging in litter-bins and sometimes getting a bit too close to people, which might be a problem since they are very prone to rabies. If you think of feeding the beseeching ‘Fido’, think twice as it is against park regulations. Where to find them? Almost everywhere, especially near and in the restcamps Interesting fact: In the late afternoon, evening and night the jackals wail, first one starts, then others answer until a fine chorus builds up… like the wolves of Africa :-) Leave a Comment

Where ever you will drive around in the park you will see zebra’s around. No matter what time of the day, they will always wear their stripes pyjamas. Leave a Comment

The biggest land animal, one of the most impressive and inelegant animals. Elephants known to have a very good memory, we will see if they will remember me in my next visit ;-) Leave a Comment

I think Etosha National Park must be the most excellent place to watch animals in pure nature. The word ''etosha'' means place of dry water or, according to other sources, huge, white area. Leave a Comment Address: Etosha National ParkDirections: North of Namibia

As the name suggests, this means “Elephant Bath” waterhole, and is frequented by numerous elephants. When I was in the area I saw loads of animals, especially Springboks, oryx, wildebeests and zebras. This waterhole is in the Okakuejo region and there is a picnic site nearby, where you can take the occasion to stretch your legs a bit. This waterhole gives a good shot at seeing Elephants, Warthogs, Giraffes, Plains Game, Red, Hartebeest, Kudu, Black-Faced Impala. There is also some possibility of seeing lions. Leave a Comment

Now this is my favourite waterhole because I saw 4 lion cubs and 2 adult males here .... just wonderful :-) There are actually 2 springs here, so the area of interest is quite big. I would suggest spending some time here because there is plenty going on. This extraordinary waterhole is in the Halali area. There is a resident pride of lions as well as good chances to see Black-Faced Impalas and Red Hartebeest. Also good for elephants, giraffe and other plains game Leave a Comment

The road between here and Olifantsbad is known for the amount of Black-Faced Impalas that can be encountered – especially in the rainy season, or near the rainy season. It is also heavily used by elephants, and the park management had to install a water pump to this water-table spring to increase the flow in the drier seasons. This is definitely one of the best waterholes to visit. This waterhole is in the Okakuejo region and is good for seeing Elephants, Warthog, Plains Game, Red Hartebeest, Giraffe, Kudu and Black-Faced Impala. Also some possibilities of seeing lion. Every lodge has a waterhole; You can watch the animals from a safe distance drink. When we were over there it was the rainy season so we only saw a few zebra's there. It seems it get's much more crowded in the dry season. It is still a great spot to see the sunset. Leave a Comment

The Impala is a beautiful antelope, maybe my favourite, especially when it is on the run with its high and long jump, just amazing to watch them. Leave a Comment
