For a road trip, if you are a point where you are starting to look at the petrol gauge and "hmmm" Ai-Ais HAS a petrol station, complete with small store selling cold drinks, crisps etc...
It is a little out of the way, in as much as, you have to go there, get petrol and then come back the same route BUT... petrol is petrol is petrol... and when gotta have some... you gotta have some!

You need your own transport to get here. There is no methods of public transport to the area. Actually, there is not much public transport throughout namibia... period. You are about 500-600KM away from anything else, so be sure to fill up before you head out towards the town and when leaving. 4X4 would be a major asset as alot of the roads leading to the town are made of a gravel/sand. I have seen people do it in a 2X, but I would not have enjoyed being in that car.

This is the closest town to The Fish River Canyon. The Canyon should definitely be on your list of things to see in Namibia. It is the second largest Canyon behind The Grand Canyon in USA.
