La Marmite is a small friendly restaurant run by a Cameroonian Chef named Martial. They serve a variety of authentic West African dishes in suitably wooden dishes. You can sit outside amongst the carved wooden statues and enjoy African food the way it was meant to be cooked. It is open Mondays - Saturday from 12:00 to 15:00 and from 17:00 to 23:00. They sometimes shut on a Sunday, so check first!

Ah, La Marmite! The ambience is great without it being overdone. You know how people like to do up a place and you can tell it's just for the tourist?
Well La Marmite is not like that, it's real...beautiful in it's simpleness.
Favorite Dish: Ah, all their food is really good. I especially like the Mafe, which is a chicken dish done in ground nut. The chargrilled lamb chops are just as delicious.

BEAUTIFUL! The designer of this place has to be a genius. This restaurant/bar is divided into so many sections. There's the diner, then there's a pub and bar area, there's a place for those who want to sit around a fire and have drinks...it's absolutely amazing!
It caters for all kinds of settings from hanging out to cozy.

This is a GREAT place to go, to get away from the noise and enjoy some fantastic barbeque. It has a "bush" setting, giving it a rural/African feel. They even have quadbiking facilities available if you want to do some stress releasing by driving around on dirt/gravel roads.
I love the tranquil atmosphere.
Oh, PLEASE BOOK in advance.
Favorite Dish: The serve freshly baked pot bread...actually all their food is made right there and then. There is no menu, you eat what they have. Generally it will be 3 diffrent types of meat like game, pork and beef. Then they'll have 3 salads with deliciously cooked veggies; Or they'll have no salads but a variety of cooked veggies (deliscious) and dessert. The thing is ALL the food is good!
Yes, they do serve beer and whatever alcohol you might want. Oh and if you're here in the Summer (which is pratically from October to April :) you'll want to have a cold beer :)
I guess by now you'll realise that is you're not a meat eater you might not like it. But, trust me the rest of the food will make it worth your while going.

This is practically tradition for tourists to go to. Even us locals always enjoy the Joe's atmosphere. It's an open air restaurant created to give an African "bush" feel.
For those meat and beer lovers this is great. But everyone enjoys it because the menu is big, the tables are huge so it's especially ideal for groups of people who just wanna hang out and be loud and have fun.
Unless you're going to sit at the bar area, it's advisable to book a table in advance.

As usual, I like finding latin spots and see if it's possible to dance. I'd never thought it would be possible in Windhoek but it is ! Well, not many people dance in this Cuban restaurant but anyway, it's a good place to hear some Cuban music and eat Cuban dishes as well.
Favorite Dish: I have to say it's not the best restaurant we tried but we went there for the atmosphere and not for the food anyway.

Extremely popular restaurant where you can try all kind of game : kudu, springbok, zebra, ostrich, crocodile and oryx. The meat tastes great. For me, one of the best (if not the best) restaurants in Windhoek. It's recommended to book in advance.

With great atomosphere and special decoration, it is more than enjoyable place to eat. A lot of foreigners came here to seek real African food, well, I think it's a recommanded place.
Favorite Dish: bushmen sosatie--for first and last visitors, I think it's good to have all the yammy food in the same plate, where there are kudu, springbok, zebra, crocodile and so on. Although it's kinda expensive than other choices but it really worth it.
