by THLIN Generally speaking, it is safe to take a cab in the city. It may cost you R5.5 per time from outside of town to downtown and cost you R10 to get off the town. One strange thing is that you have to share a cab with other people that you do not know. It may be a little unease for foreingers perhaps. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

The cheapest and easiest mode of transportation in Windhoek is a taxi. At the date of this tip the fee is N$6.50 (might go up soon due to fuel hike). Taxis are everywhere and you recognise them by the yellow taxi sign on or in the taxi. They also MUST have address details printed on the side of the car. When you get off at a point that's not a taxi rank, the charge is double. Also, taxi use is not exclusive, so the taxi driver wll pick up other passengers along the way who are travelling in the same direction as you. So, your ride might not be straightforward. You need to keep that in mind when you are going to important appointments. Unfortunately we do not have week passes etc. It's just a pay as you go thing. Getting there Most visitors passing through Windhoek are either driving themselves around or are members of a group trip. Relatively few will need to rely on the local bus, coach or train services detailed here, despite their efficiency. By air Windhoek has excellent international air links with the UK, Germany, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia. From Windhoek there are regular flights to: Katima Mulilo N$1,249 Lüderitz N$1,059 Mokuti Lodge N$830 Ondangwa N$819 Oranjemund N$1,179 Rosh Pinah N$1,129 Swakopmund N$489 Walvis Bay N$489 Travellers should note that Windhoek has two airports, and check which one is used for each of their flights. Hosea Kutako International Airport tends to be for larger aircraft and most international flights, while Eros, near the Safari Hotel, caters mostly for internal flights and light aircraft, and just a few international flights. Both are small by international standards and are modern and pleasant – at least as airports go. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

A page of my dairy with watercolor drawings by SirRichard This is the bus and the best way to enter Namibia from South Africa. It leaves Capetown (US$73) at 13:00 and arrives in Windhoek next day at 6 in the morning. It's a double decker bus, very comfortable with nice stewardesses that offer you tea or coffee, several stops, A/C, blankets for the night.... Leave a Comment

Curio shop - Windhoek by PierreZA Windhoek International Airport (Hosea Kutako International Airport) is about 40km outside the city. I am not sure as to what transport is available from the airport to the city (as friends came to fetch me at the airport). You need to complete a form on arrival, as well as when you are departing. There are different counters fro rsidents of Namibia, SADC residents and other Nationalities. Theme: AirplanePhone: + 264 (0)62 702 402

by Gili_S Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport is the gateway to the country. It is located about half an hour drive from Windhoek. Nice small airport, no need to queue, no hassle and even nice duty free store to spend your last local currency. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

On the way to Windhoek by PierreZA I flew with SAA from ORTIA (Johannesburg). There are several daily flights. I know that Air Namibia also have flights between Johannesburg and Windhoek. The flight takes only 2 hours. It seems that cheap flights are not easy to find on this route. Theme: Airplane

by Gili_S I can recommend www.advancedcarhire.com Michael which is the owner took good care of us, we been picked up from the airport and also back to our return flight. The car was perfect, almost new, and when we return it there was no hassle what's so ever. Ask to have two spare tyres just in case, we had one puncture during our trip which is about the average :) Leave a Comment

Windhoek-Swakopmund takes 3 hours and costs 230 N$ one way. Walvis bay is 30 minutes south of Swakopmund Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

We just recently got back from a holiday to Namibia. It's generally advisable NOT to walk around in Windhoek unless you look like a local. Instead you can easily organise a taxi. We used Corrie van Wyk at L&C Transfers & Chauffeurs. Great service with a smile :) Leave a Comment
