Most taxis cruise along Independence Avenue south of the intersection with Fidel Castro Street. The easiest place to catch them is in front of the Kalahari Sands Hotel. Make sure you agree on the price before taking them; most will ask for at least 50 N$ to go anywhere around Windhoek.

Windhoek Hosea Kutako Intl. Airport (WDH) is the main international airport in the country. It's located 45 km east of the city. The main runway is one of the longest in the World, with 4673 meter.
The airport is one of the least busy capital airports in the world. A public bus connect the airport to downtown Windhoek. Tourists can also rent cars from the airport. There are very few shops in the terminals, selling food, refreshments, and souvenirs.

Air Namibia is the national airline. It's a little airline with only one inter-continental route to Frankfurt, Germany (Airbus 340-300). The rest are routes to the bordering countries Angola, South-Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe.

The south African company "Intercape" have buslines through the south western part of Africa. One of the buslines goes from Windhoek to Victoria Falls, through the Khomas region, Otjozondjupa region, Okavango region, caprivo region. It is 1250 km on the Caprivo highway. The main stop before the Zambian border is Katima Mulilo.
Departure from Windhoek every second day. Book your ticket some hours in advance at the Windhoek office/garage. The bus will leave from the garage 04 PM, but will stand still and wait for passengers at the parking area in front of the Supreme Court before it leaves at 5.30 PM. Travel Bug Safaris offered excellent trip to Sossusvlei during the weekend. It included two nights at Agama Camp outside of the Naukluft Park, all the driving to, around and from the Sand Sea, all meals one of which (some Kudu steak) was unforgettable and expert tips on how to conquer the highest dune, Big Daddy. All of this for 300CAN per person is a wonderful deal compared to let's say Kruger safari which costs the same for half the time.

When considering renting a car the reflex is to go for the well-known international brands such as Europecar, Avis, and Hertz etc. Well, experience shows that small upstart in relative terms can provide better service in terms of delivering exactly the car that you wanted; picking you up from your hotel and transferring you back to it after the rental is over and general courtesy at every step. The way to go is with CABS, located on Independence Avenue, not far from the Post Street Mall.
P.S.
Instead of paying the equivalent of 90CAN you will pay only 60CAN for the day, eh!

Michael which is the owner took good care of us, we been picked up from the airport and also back to our return flight. The car was perfect, almost new, and when we return it there was no hassle what's so ever.
Ask to have two spare tyres just in case, we had one puncture during our trip which is about the average :)

Windhoek International Airport (Hosea Kutako International Airport) is about 40km outside the city. I am not sure as to what transport is available from the airport to the city (as friends came to fetch me at the airport).
You need to complete a form on arrival, as well as when you are departing.
There are different counters fro rsidents of Namibia, SADC residents and other Nationalities.

I flew with SAA from ORTIA (Johannesburg).
There are several daily flights. I know that Air Namibia also have flights between Johannesburg and Windhoek.
The flight takes only 2 hours.
It seems that cheap flights are not easy to find on this route.
