Under the star-studded sky

by magor65

Spending a night out in a pub or restaurant is not something you do very often in Namibia. Yes, when you stay in a town like Swakopmund or Windhoek, it's quite likely you will go out in the evening , but elsewhere it's not. Luckily, there's a great alternative. What can be better than sitting at a camp-fire with a glass of beer/wine and talking to your fellow travellers? Or just keeping silent and looking up at the enormous sky studded with millions of stars? When you are in Etosha, the best place to be in the evening is a water-hole. So much is happening here. You feel like in a theatre where animals are actors. Actually it's better than a theatre - it's for real.

hot but friendly shebeen night..

by gyanacita

In the Herero capital (the name slips my tongue but I will get back to you on this) you can choose between sterile fun in the "safarihotel" - (the only hotel at the entrance of town back then)" or enjoy local fun in the cute little shebeen (black pub) opposite the road! In the shebeen you will make new friends and if not holding a beer be holding hands and making audacious tonguemoves in an attempt to repeat the herero words the pooling man and dancing women are teaching you.. The choice is all yours...You can let life take you on its shoulders or have an early night because nothing much is happening, at the other side of the road..

Other kind of nightlife

by Gili_S

In the cities there is also some nightlife, but here is also other kind of nightlife as watching the animals at night, here you can see the rhino approaching the waterhole in Etosha Park to get some water No dress code for the... rhino

The Namibia Wilderness: Unconventional Nightlife

by SanguiniA

Of course there are some nightclubs and such in Windhoek, Walvis Bay and Swakopmund ... but who goes on a camping roadtrip for the clubs? - and most of Namibia is deserted anyway ... African nights are under an impressive blanket of stars - the Milky way especially visible. And at Etosha, nightlife takes a new dimension at the floodlit waterholes at each restcamp. If you are lucky you may pick up a rhino as your hot date for the night :-) Dress warmly!!

the stage night club & disco: Is it African?!

by THLIN

Okay! I admit I as a "Orientor" who does not know a lot about how Westerners enjoy their lifves, now I know. There is also a lot of tourists which make it look like Europe more than Africa.Just drink alcoholic drinks and enjoy pool game!! No. Just look nice.

The Quiver Tree Forest at sunset - or as in this picture at sunrise, since I had taken dozens of pictures the evening before without having put a film into my new camera!!!! But getting up early really was worth it!

Oshakati Country Lodge: high-quality country lodge

by Soili

Oshakati Country Lodge seems to be the best the town can offer. It's a large place, and the rooms are in rows. It should have its own airstrip somewhere nearby. My first experience of a country lodge and well, a fine restaurant but I felt unease. Not my type of place. Perfect for business travellers, though.A beautiful back garden, and the pool which you can isnpect form your dinner table. JUst like in other places the dress code seems to be quite flexible and free. Maybe because of the hot weather - people don't feel free wearing a dark suit or a lenghtydress.Something cool, no shorts though - smart, casual clothes.

ETOSHA NATIONAL PARKThe only 'classical' wildlife park in Namibia, Etosha's centre is a water pan where animals come to drink. There are 3 campings in the Park, one near each entrance. I found quite interesting the waterholes near the campings, where you could see the animals come at night for water.

The campfire!!!: The campfire!!!

by DaKoyote

Since this was a safari, we weren't near any major cities...we were camping every night, so when the sun went down, that meant it was almost time to sleep....we sat around the campfire, eating, drinking, telling riddles (to Benson and Georgie!!...the point the Quafsa vs. Zoom rivalry began)...it was great!! Dress warm..it gets very cold at night and early in the morning if you are camping.
