The Spitzkoppe campsites are run by the local community and are very reasonably priced.
The campsites are situated amongst huge granite boulders and mountains and are very secluded. There is very little piped water in the reserve and only a few of the campsites have toilets (longdrop!). you will need to bring all of your water supplies with you.
If you like bouldering or rock climbing then you will find lots to do here. There are also some sites where you can climb up into the mountains with the aid of a chain ladder to see bushman paintings.

A climb up Spitzkoppe is a must do for most people. We decided to escape the crowds that were heading up the mountain for sunset and stayed firmly on the ground and watched.
It was beautiful there anyway!
For the people in our group who did go up, they said it was fairly easy, but at times slippery and steep.

The hot Namibian sun in the day was unbearable. Luckily Spitzkoppe is a huge sandstone mountain, and at the base of it there are plenty of caves where you can seek shade!
We took our sleeping mats and books and chilled in the cave for the whole day.

There is actually more than one Natural Bridge around in the Spitzkoppe Area, but you have to keep your eyes open to find them
The Area is also quite big - try to get a map at the entrance door.
They actually forgot to give us a map, but I happened to find one at a stop ... I was lucky.
To drive around you better have a 4WD. Most places you can go without, but there are some tricky stones on the way sometimes.

The Granit Formations of Spitzkop and of the Erongo are very fotogen.
If you do like to climb, this is a true paradise.
If you like to Hike, there is also a lot to see.
In this Area you can find Stone paintings if you keep your eyes open.
The Great Spitzkop, a Granit-Mountain is towering 1728 m high. Next to it are the smaller Pontok Mountains and little Spitzkop.
The Erongo-Mountains developed from vulcanic activity in this area 150 Million Years ago. Due to this, the Surroundings are very rich in Semi-precious stones like Tourmaline etc.
The people in this Area life from selling these to Tourists. If you like to buy them, I would advise you to know a little about stones and what they are worth ....

Spitzkoppe - way off the civilisation

Well, it seems you can´t go more away from civilisation than here. Well, o.k., they have some rooms you can rent and the whole area is a camping place, but else .... I loved it!

A night spent in Spitzkoppe was well worth the effort of getting there. The camp felt like it was deserted, the stars were magnificent at night and the sandstone mountains and caves were a great...
