OUTJO CAFÉ-BACKERIE: A QUALITY QUICK BITE ON THE ROAD

by DAO

If you are on a road trip through the Northern part of Namibia, your travels will probably take you to Outjo. The Café Bäckerei is a great place top fuel up before an early start from Outjo. You can stop here for a quick pastry or a hot morning meat pie. They also do simple meals like schnitzels, burgers, and chicken. In fact it seemed to be the only dinning option here. I enjoyed a few hot meat rolls early one morning on my way out of the village. Tasty. In fact they have the only 'Meisterbrief" baker in Namibia. If that’s not good enough they also have a Beer Garden and Internet.

NANDO'S: PORTUGUESE BARBEQUE

by DAO

Nandos is an international chain of restaurants that offer a great menu of freshly grilled chicken right in front of you. They use open flames to create a great taste. Nandos celebrates the distinctive tradition of Peri-Peri barbeque that was born 400 years ago when Portuguese explorers discovered Africa food and spices. The first Nandos came into being in Johannesburg in 1987 and here in Namibia (Windhoek) 1995. The salads are fresh and you get to choose your own sauce that the chicken is marinated in. You also select how hot or (or not!) you want this to be. The Quarter Chicken Meal with medium Peri Pari with salad and rice

O PORTUGA RESTAURANT IN WINDHOEK: PORTUGUESE & ANGOLAN DELIGHT

by DAO

This place is always busy and it definitely because the food is very good. In fact, this restaurant does superb food, from an exotic and large menu. You can get a peek at your fish (pictured) before they do their magic on it. Ingredients are fresh and tasty and even the economical wines are good quality. If you are in Windhoek for 2-3 days, stop in for a great meal. The menu is massive and varied. Plenty of vegetarian options as well. The only thing to be aware of: the staff are slow. It’s a shame because the food is excellent. Also some [people smoke in here. Just give the people smoking at the next table a nasty look and they usually pack it in. I had the Salad Niçoise for a starter (pictured) followed by an Angolan Fish Dish (also pictured) washed down with some red wine and a cold draft beer.

JOE'S BEERHOUSE - WINDHOEK: EAT AT JOE'S

by DAO

Eat at Joe’s? The name really does not even begin to hint at the delights of this fantastic restaurant. This is a WOW! I rate this as one of the best restaurants in Africa. The compound is full of Lapas (small thatch covered buildings with no walls) and several themes areas. There is a pond and several bar areas as well. The staff are fantastic and nothing is a problem. The menu screams MEAT EATERS WELCOME! Choose from Game dishes or traditional meat dishes. And there’s the beer! Served cold and with a smile every time. This is a lively yet peaceful atmosphere for families and couples. They stay open late for drinkers. If you only spend one night in Windhoek – eat here!* There are vegetarian dishes on the menu. * Starter:Chicken Salad with Prawns. Georgeous! Tender chicken with a fresh tasty salad. * Main meal:Bushman Sosatie – the King of meals in Windhoek!Ostrich, Crocodile, Zebra,...

Own food

by Gili_S

Of course when on the road and in the wilderness, one of the best fun and joy is to cook your own food. There are no cooking facilities in the camping sites, so have your own wood or gas for the cooking as well as all the pots, pans and other tools.Food you can by at the camping stores.

BRAAI

by DAO

Who needs a restaurant when you could be cooking in the beautiful outdoors of Namibia? They are blessed with great weather and you can Braai virtually every night. The word Braai (rhymes with ‘cry’) is Afrikaans for ‘barbecue’ or ‘roast’. To me it translates as simply delicious. You also get to burn stuff to make your meal. Most grocery stores have all your Braai supplies. That includes firewood. It just doesn’t get any better than this. You have to do all the work, but it well worth it. Texas Steak (large pre-marinated steak from Shoprite) and Boerwoers (a huge sausage of various ingredients and flavours) and some ice cold beers.

The Tug, Swakopmund: Book Early

by Milgo13

We had the best seat in the house looking out over the ocean with the sun setting. The food was also stunning. Well recommended is the seafood extraganza followed by dark and ebony mousse for desert. Book early to avoid disappointment seafood extraganza - line caught fish, prawns, calamari, crayfish to name a few things on the dish

The light house pub and restaurant: A great place for a meal and a drink

by dropbear

This would be one of the best restaurants i have been to , it is close to the center of Swarkopmund, over looking the beach with large windows alowing an uniterupted view of the coast. This restaurant is so popular with the locals , with its exellant food , large range of drinks that are availiable , great service and cosy ambience ,that bookings for a table are essential
