Joe's Beer House: When in Windhoek (Rome...).....

by local7460

A very busy and popular restaurant with a wide variety of food to be ordered. We were there on a Tuesday evening, which is not always regarded as a good social evening, but there were many people an I would recommend that you book in advance. The ambience is very jovial and light with people enjoying themselves. "We make the best eisbein in the world" - local waiter. I could not argue.

wish I personally be able to recommend, but will give you a few reference url-zThe multi ethnic, multicultural history of Namibia is interesting.Remember it was a major debate item, high on the agenda of ther security council and general assembly for years, even the world court in the Hague witnessed these activities. Restaurants offering Namibian-style cuisine which has developed its own particular flavour. ===local venison like gemsbok, kudu and springbok is featured on the restaurant menus. Venison is also delicious when smoked or served as paté. ===OSTRICH steaks, fillets and biltong (strips of dried meat) are also available. ===There is never a shortage of tasty meat dishes, as Namibia is a major producer of top-grade beef and mutton. ===SEAFOOD specialties from the West Coast include succulent rock lobster, oysters, and fish such as kingklip, sole and steenbras.===Like other...

Yeah, restaurant....I was a volunteer...we didn't get there too often, but there was a Tex-Mex type place on Independence Av that was pretty good...we were starved for Mexican food. And any place that served pizza was amazing...The problem with the restaurants is that they are all tourist/white oriented. There really aren't any 'local cuisine' joints. So you can't really get an idea of what true Namibian fare is....though, you aren't missing much unless you like boiled meat, porridge, and omaere (sour milk). Ernie's pub in Gobabis served pizza with pineapple and bananas...hey, don't knock it till you try it....

My favourite restaurant is one I can't recall the name of. It was a seafood restaurant in Swakopmund on the beach front down from the Museum. The fish was superb. Most of our meals were usually camp meals and this was a delightful change.

Joe’s Beerhouse: Joe’s Beerhouse

Very popular restaurant, specially with tourists and maybe some (white) locals. Service a bit slow. Gigantic steaks. Take a mix plate and you can taste all kind of weird meats, mostly excellent: beef, zebra, kudu, gemsbok, springbok, crocodile, ...

Joe's Beer House...this place is unbelievable...a must see!!This restaraunt specializes in serving 'game'. This means, antelope, zebra, ostrich, crocodile, etc....the atmosphere is worth it all...you are sitting in a place that seems like a rainforest..YOU MUST VISIT THIS RESTARAUNT....ask around. Everything...especially the 'game knuckle'...it's a kind of meat... i don't know what kind but it was absolutely delicious!! Don't eat the crocodile..it's repulsive!!....Zebra was dry.Of course the Kudu was unbelievable (it's my favorite african dish!)...ostrich wasn't bad either...but if it came down to one item, it would be 'game knuckle'.
