The beer hunt continues.....in Swako!!!

by Cabana_Boy

Wherever you go, whatever you do, sampling the local beer is definite must. What do the locals drink, what beer is most popular, which beer is hardest to find, does it come in a half pint glass just like grandma used to drink…or better still, a full pint glass like I drink??? These are all good questions that need to be answered...If there’s one good thing the Germans left behind in Namibia, it’s the art of German brewing……and…well…I guess there are a lot of nice German engineered cars driving around Namibia as well (my first time to drive a Mercedes…sweet…). So after driving over to the coast from Windhoek, BGK and I had only one thing on our minds…beer and the sunset, I know, I know, tender isn’t it…we tucked into the Lighthouse pub and ordered up a couple of “toasties” as Capt. Namibian Dollar

by MikeAtSea

Namibia has got its own currency - the Namibian Dollar. The currency is en-par with the South African Rand, which is also accepted everywhere in the country. Be reminded that if you do get your hands on local currency, try and spend it in the country, since you will battle to exchange it back into anything else later; even in South Africa!!

... are very often in Swakop. The guide said that Swakop only has 45 sunshine day a year! Not sure if it's true or not ... Coming from Sesriem, about 40 degrees, and arriving in Swakop it was a temperature difference of about 26 degrees. In the evening it was terrible cold and I but everything on I had with me. I used my pareo as scarf :-)

A summer resort

by SirRichard

Though we arrived in winter (august), SWK is the main holiday center for water sports, beaches and coasts, but anyway, don't expect more than 22°C in summer!! The water, even in summer, is bloody cold, but there are a lot of good restaurants and loooong sandy coasts.

Money Matters

by MikeAtSea

Namibia has got an extensive network of banks. If you leave the main regions make sure that you have some cash on you, since towns and cities are sometimes hundreds of kilometers apart!
