Who needs a restaurant when you could be cooking in the beautiful outdoors of Swakopmund? They are blessed with great weather and you can Braai virtually every night. The word Braai (rhymes with ‘cry’) is Afrikaans for ‘barbecue’ or ‘roast’. To me it translates as simply delicious. You also get to burn stuff to make your meal. Most grocery stores have all your Braai supplies. That includes firewood. It just doesn’t get any better than this. You have to do all the work, but it well worth it.

Favorite Dish: Texas Steak (large pre-marinated steak from Shoprite) and Boerwoers (a huge sausage of various ingredients and flavours) and some ice cold beers. Also some mushrooms in a peppercorn sauce. I bought all this and my firewood at Shoprite.

Dinner in the Dunes

Imagine having dinner below some of the highest dunes in the world above you the canopy of stars of the Southern Hemisphere. Local music accompanies your dinner experience and you enjoy local game dishes. An absolute different experience, which I can only recommend!

Cafe Anton is the spot you have to go for a real Black Forest Cake and other Cakes and Cookies.

Located oposite the Light tower you can sit outside with a view on the souvenir market on the street below, sip your coffee or tea and simply enjoy live.

If you are into sweets, this is a must do!

Favorite Dish: Cakes and more Cakes!

A beached tugboat makes this a unique restaurant location. The seafood is wonderful, service excellent and did I mention the seaview.

Favorite Dish: Kalbjou - locally caught and served in a saffron sauce with peeled prawns

I was fortunate to have their Seafood salad. It is by far the best I've ever had. Fresh seafood and crisp salad. This was 4 years ago and I still remember it. Must have been good.

Been to two, one real exclusive one where I had a nice ostrich meal and the other night after a long day in the sun just a great pizza and cold beer.

food

Quite small (so phone ahead), very, very good food, coming in big portions.

Favorite Dish: Crostini with chicken-liver on piri-piri sauce, (hot) on a fresh salad.

Fresh mussels, the seafood-platter ... etc. etc.
