When I went to check in at the Makalani Hotel I noticed off to my right and half-way up the stairs was a very large crocodile! Yep, he was dead and stuffed, but this critter was big and still scary. The nice lady who checked me in, Maria, told me that I had to say “Hi Belly” every time I walked past this giant reptile. So, several times to the great delight of the receptionists they kept hearing me say “Hi Belly” as I went back and forth.
Later that night I was out washing my car and I saw 2 new people at reception and 2 people talking about ‘Belly’. Then a large man walked in and he was addressed as ‘Belly’. Turns out that ‘Belly’ is the Hotel Manger’s name!
I told Maria the next day the Manager caught me saying hello to the crocodile and she looked genuinely alarmed. I then reassured her that he had not and her secret was safe with me.
