Would you beliefe that a man like you decided to disappear into the ground as a result of anger? I'm sure if you go to ilaro in ogun state , Nigeria, you will still be able to meet some of the elders there who knows much about ORONNA, the great warrior who did that

ORONNA was a warrior sent to Ilaro from the then Oyo empire to help the people of ilaro at war with Dahome the now Republic of Bennin.

When Oronna arrived from Oyo to ilaro with his wife Iya ala, he asked the people of the town for a secret area for him to live at the same time hide till when the war time comes. The town Elders at that time asked him why a secret place and he told them he doesn't go out until its time for war. He also warned the elders not to come for him unless there is a war.
They were so worried about Oronna {who cought a tiger(EKUN)live during his hunting time} and his secrecy and so they decided to test him one day.

They went to Oronna's apartment and called him out in anxiety telling the enemies were around and he went out strongly as a man and started fighting and killing people in the town thinking he was killing the enemies but at a stage he noticed that the tribal mark he was having was the same as that of those he killed and he stopped killing.

Then the elders who tempted him came out and told him they only tested his power and he was so annoyed that he couldn't hold it and he decide to go into the soil of ilaro for memory pupose with his tiger.

The people of ilaro never believed it until about 3/4 of his body had gone into the soil then they started holding him but that was too late for the. The only thing remaing till today is just the chain he used in holding his tiger.

His remebrance (oronna day) comes up every November and is largly celebrated in ilaro, ogun state.

Guess what, during the early hours of Oronna remenbrance, the chain still shakes after son incantations and this assures the people of ilaro that Oronna ekun, oko iya ala livethin the soil up till today. By Omoba Adewusi UK
